Crystal Joilena takes on the A-Z Challenge

Welcome to the A-Z challenge, a fun way to get to know the many bands and artists out there. Here it’s the turn of Crystal Joilena to tell us about her music!

A song that made you want to make music?

“Eden” by Sarah Brightman, 1998. In my opinion, it’s one of the most beautiful songs in existence, I loved her collaboration with Enigma and I’ve always wanted to have a similar sound.

Best rider you have had?

I haven’t had a rider yet!

Craziest moment in the band?

I have only recently found two members to join my solo project, so we haven’t had anything crazy happen yet!

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

“Breaking down and building myself back up now, how many times will this cycle repeat itself?”

Easiest song you wrote?

“Lilith” (October 2020) those lyrics and melody came really easy to me when I was angry and upset at the world one day, it was almost channeled.

Everyone’s schedules and finding the right times to practice!

I’m also a makeup artist, I’m really good at special effects makeup.

Jokes you have in the band?

My friends and I really like to say “this is the way” a lot, under any circumstance, even if it’s a tragic one.

Key to writing a song?

Having the correct mindset toward the song you are creating is very important, lyrics just come to me at random and in visions.

I personally went to Berlin, Germany to play a show once a few years ago.

Nightlife

Opening for this band would be ideal?

Yes! That would be amazing actually.

“Believe in your infinite potential, your only limitations are those you set upon yourself” -Roy T. Bennett

Reason for the title of your forthcoming release?

The High Priestess, just like the tarot card “The High Priestess” I get her in my readings a lot, so I decided to dedicate a song to her.

See us live at?

To be announced!

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

Yes I do agree, I would have loved to make music in the ‘90s.

Unusual merchandise?

Spell jars. I will be selling them soon.

Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?

I want to do more reimagined versions of my songs like I’ve done for covers of band’s songs since 2015, we did it with Holy Misery, and War On My Soul, Jolly was actually the one to suggest the acoustic version of War On My Soul, just like the Bad Omens acoustic versions of their songs.

What do your fans mean to you?

Everything in the world, my fans are why I continue to put my all into everything I release, not just for myself.

X-rays or any other treatments needed for band injuries?

I am getting a cat scan next week, and then I will need surgery for my hiatal hernia and another surgery to help control some symptoms of Crohn’s disease.

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

My own for sure, I have ADHD and poor time management, but I try my best.

Elephant. My Grandmother loved elephants, and she passed down that love for them to me, I wear a lot of jewelry with elephants, it makes me feel luckier.
