Catch Your Breath on their darkest, most personal chapter yet

Catch Your Breath tell us about the amazing time they had at Download and all about new album Not Broken Enough!

Texas metalcore outfit Catch Your Breath have entered a bold new era with Not Broken Enough.

The album blends darker textures, soaring hooks and the raw emotion that has fuelled their rise.

Fresh from a memorable Download Festival 2026 appearance and preparing for their biggest UK and European headline run yet, vocalist Josh Mowery spoke to us about vulnerability, ambition and why fans can expect to become part of the show.

Not Broken Enough feels like a significant new chapter for Catch Your Breath — what did you want this album to say that your previous releases hadn’t yet captured?

I don’t know if we were trying to say anything different per se, but only continuing to tell our story through music.

The record balances intense emotion with synth-driven soundscapes and big modern-rock hooks. How did you approach evolving that sound while keeping the identity that listeners connected with on tracks like Dial Tone?

We approached it with an open mind. I knew that I wanted to evolve our sound in a darker, more unorthodox way than most of Shame On Me. I really think it reflects in songs like Gen[inside] and Dark. But overall I love a balance.

Is there a particular song on Not Broken Enough that felt especially difficult, vulnerable, or rewarding to create — and why?

Hollow Dreams. Honestly that song was hard for me to record vocals to. It’s kind of me opening up about how it feels to play the shows we play, and get the chances we get, gold singles,  all while being a broke, new musician. It’s hard to take compliments or feel good about yourself when you feel like you’re not where you should be in life.

You performed at Download Festival 2026 — how did it feel to take Catch Your Breath onto a festival stage with that kind of history and reputation?

Incredible. I’ll remember it for the rest of my life. I had an absolute blast and it was even better because my fiancee was with me. Got to see ADTR side stage. Legendary.

What stood out most about the Download crowd, and did playing the festival give you a different perspective on how far the band has come?

The sheer size of the crowd was amazing. The interaction, the mosh pits. It was an absolute dream come true. It really put into perspective what’s happening with the band and what we stand to be a part of, and it’s unreal.

Your 2027 UK and European headline run is your biggest set of shows on this side of the world so far. What can fans expect from the live show as you bring Not Broken Enough to the stage?

Community. They can expect to be a part of the show. To get out whatever may be bothering them at the time.

With Ocean Sleeper and Elijah joining the full tour, what are you most looking forward to about returning to the UK and Europe — and are there any dates or cities you’re especially excited to play?

I’m always excited to make new friends and go to Europe and the UK anytime. EU/UK has welcomed us with open arms from the second we stepped foot across the pond. I’ll always be excited to play there. But this time, I’m especially excited to see Milan.

We also like to end with some fun questions. You could have written any song in history, what would you pick and why?

It’s Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door – Underoath. Because if you’ve ever experienced that song live you’d understand haha.

What’s a piece of advice that you ignored, that you’re glad you ignored?

That putting all of your eggs in one basket was a bad idea.

What would be your starter pokemon?

Charmander DUH!!
