Deepest lyric one of your songs features?
Don’t know about deepest. Favourite on the record might be “When the light is more forgiving, I’m a dead ringer for the living. I try to meet you more alive.”
Easiest song you wrote?
Transit III. Wrote that one on my piano in about 5 minutes. Recorded it on my iPhone and sent it to our producer.

Ruin

Guy Garvey of Elbow.
Hardest thing about being in a band?
Driving. Waiting.
Interesting fact about one of your members?
Chris has a law degree.
Jokes you have in the band?
Our tour manager plays “midnight at the oasis” constantly in the van, every day of tour. I can’t stand it.
Key to writing a song?
I’m not sure I know the answer to that. It changes. I know that it has to “move” you as the writer. If that happens you have a shot at it moving others.
Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?
Without a day off, Niagara Falls to Charlotte NC I believe. 700 miles. San Francisco to Portland a bunch. We’ve done a ton of shit drives.

Reason for the title of your forthcoming release?
A lot of the record is about blindly following the crowd and not staying true to our passions and our spirit. Traveling “In Droves” from the things that make us who we are.

Wembley? Maybe someday?
The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?
No. There were better “scenes” and movements but I think there is plenty of brilliant stuff out there. You just have to find it.

Lots of broken, signed cymbals
Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?
I have a nice piano version of “Run Rabbit Run”.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. We couldn’t really do this if it wasn’t for them.
X-rays or any other treatments needed for band injuries?
I broke my left foot and then did a show the same night. Not fun.
You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?
We are like Gandalf and are always on time.
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?
The Zookeeper.
