Audio Impulse is an alternative rock band that writes hard driving riffs, melodic bass lines, solid face-melting drums, and soul shattering lyrics accompanied by complex vocal harmonies. A down to earth groove and a pure love for rock and roll, this band is an ode to all of those rock greats that came before them. Not only does the music bring you back to the glory days of rock, but it adds the next chapter. Each song is a journey into the minds and hearts of four musicians who do what they do for no other reason than the pure love of the music. Crank the volume as loud as you can and blast off into a frenzy of fast paced energy that will shatter your soul and cleanse you of the everyday troubles that plague us all.
The Philadelphia rockers Audio Impulse took on the A-Z Questionnaire Challenge…
A Song Which Made You Want To Make Music:
The song that made me pick up a guitar is a little cliché but it doesn’t bother me one bit, which is “Iron Man” – Black Sabbath. I was listening to it one day in my dad’s car and playing air guitar to the song when I came to the realization that I could be doing it for real. I asked for a guitar and got my first one for Christmas that year. Ever since then I hear that song and think of that moment that changed my life.
Best Rider You have Ever Had:
We as a band typically try not to make any crazy demands on the venues or events we play, so we ask for the basic necessities for the show that night which generally consists of bottled water at room temperature. We aren’t very exciting in those terms of being a “rock star”.
Craziest Moment You’ve Experienced In The Band:
Personally for me every day is a crazy experience followed by another, we have done more things as a band than I could have ever imagined. In terms of the question, I would say the craziest moment would be when we sold out our EP release show! We booked some of our favorite bands that we’ve shared the stage with and were featured on the local radio. The place was packed from beginning to end and when we finally took the stage at the end of the night everyone there was singing our songs along with us. As a vocalist, that’s one of the greatest feelings you can have.
Deepest Lyrics One Of Your Songs Features:
All of our songs mean a lot to us and we pay extra attention to the lyrics so they all have a deeper meaning than what’s on the surface. Out of the songs we’ve released though, there’s one verse that really speaks to me and it’s from our latest single “For The Road”.
When the smoke has gone and cleared away, the world became my own to take.
Nothing now could stop me or make me break.
As I turn the page in the book of life, the words they read cut like a knife,
Another chapter to get this whole thing right.
Easiest Song You Wrote:
I would have to say that would be “Straight Shot”. It’s a straight forward song with an honest message that follows the vein of every punk song. Nate and I wrote the chorus in my apartment one day and then fleshed out the rest of it on acoustic guitars. The next practice was used to present and finish the song. All the elements just sort of fell into place and we wrote the rest of song within the first few minutes of practice that day.
Favourite Song In Your Set:
My personal favorite would have to be “For The Road” because that song is the full realization of the sound that Audio Impulse was going for in the first full length album. It’s a song that has an awesome raw feel to it and always brings up the energy level in every set. It starts off strong and finishes hard and fast!
Guest You’d Most Like To Feature On Your Record:
We are actually in the works of getting Blackey Deathproof from Midnight Mob on one of our tracks as a guest vocalist! We are all extremely excited to work with her and have her voice add that extra magic in the song to make it great.
Hardest Thing About Being In A Band:
The toughest thing about being in a band is just dealing with the everyday pressures that effect the relationships within the band. Each member has a job outside of the band and a whole number of external factors that add into the stress of making this a viable solution for a career. It can be hard at times to be understanding and sympathetic to each other since we all feel so passionately about this project. Emotions can run high at times but we always come to the same conclusion that the sum of whole is greater than the individual parts and we eventually work through any disagreements we may have.
Interesting Fact About One Of Your Members:
Our drummer Freeman was found through Craigslist and was the first and only drummer that we tried out for Audio Impulse. The night he showed up to our practice space and starting jamming with us, we unanimously decided right away that he was the perfect fit. Four years later we are still going strong.
Jokes You Have In The Band:
We actually have a couple jokes that stay within the band and some are not so PG, but the one I will share with you is a joke that I constantly make with the guys. One night we were discussing the plans for the band in the upcoming year and I finished a sentence with “stick with me boys and I will lead you to the land of milk and honey” which caused an immediate reaction from them all. Now whenever anyone of us has an opinion that the others end up agreeing on we simply finish the conversation with “follow me to the land of milk and honey”.
Key To Writing a Song:
The key to writing a song is to simply be open to it. Take inspiration from as much as you can and find a direction you wish to go with it. Then let the creativity fly and never reject an idea until you’ve fully exhausted the possibility of it being a full song.
Longest Distance You’ve Travelled To Play A Show:
We have travelled to New York from Philadelphia on several occasions to play shows within the city or Long Island but that will soon change as we are about begin a tour on the South Eastern Leg of the Extreme Tour! We will be travelling all the way down to Florida!
Most Inspiring Musician You’ve Ever Experienced:
Honestly for me it would have to be Billy Corgan. His lyrics have inspired me beyond comprehension. When I was in high school I discovered the Smashing Pumpkins album “Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness”. The abstract form of his lyrics and the style of his song writing have stuck with me throughout the years and still defines me as a writer to this day.
New Band You’d Recommend:
Honestly there are so many bands that I could recommend, but rather than just say one band I would say that people should check out bands in their local community and see what their scene is producing at the moment. I’ve found more talented bands in the Philadelphia scene than I have ever discovered through the pop charts throughout the years. So give any local band a chance and maybe you can be a part of the reason why they get big!
Opening For This Band Would Be Ideal:
Foo Fighters! Any day anywhere!
Place You’d Most Like To Tour:
I would love to tour Europe! I’ve never had the opportunity to jump across the pond and see the sights there so anytime we could get over there would be amazing to me personally.
Quote That You’d Like To Pass On To Readers:
The love and compassion you show towards others is not contingent on the love they show you. Love should always be unconditional and nobody can ever take that away from you.
Reason For The Title Of Your Recent/Forthcoming Release:
Straight Shot is the title of our first single off of the EP and the entire album feels like a straight forward message of love lost and finding new hope. It’s a short and concise story that rocks from beginning to end with a finale that is pure fun!
See Us Live At:
We typically play in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas with a multitude of venues, but there are a ton of live videos of our shows on YouTube that you can check out! Just search for Audio Impulse and join our page!
The Old Days Of Music Were Better Than Those Current, do you agree:
I completely disagree with this statement! There’s good music out there today, you just have to go looking for it! It is mostly within your local scenes and hasn’t hit the national or international level. Also, that statement ignores the fact there were a ton of bad popular songs back in the day. Over the years, the bad songs were forgotten and we only focus on the truly good music from past eras. I believe there will be just as many forgettable songs from this generation as there was from the last.
Unusual Merchandise:
We have the standard merchandise but we have been talking about plastering our band logo on some booty shorts, baseball hats, and other clothing that you typically don’t see for sale at a band’s merch table.
Variations You’d Like To Do On Any Of Your Songs:
We actually like to re-purpose all of our songs for acoustic sets. Eventually we would like to record the best of them and release them for the public’s consumption.
What Do Your Fans Mean To You:
Our fans are our lifeline. We do everything for them rather than for ourselves. One major thing that my bandmates and I have in common is that we all have that one album that saved our lives. Music has given us so much over the years and has inspired us to live life rather than just get by. Each one of us has experienced that moment of feeling lost and alone, and at times it seemed like there was no way out of the spiraling depression we were falling into. Each one of us found inspiration in the music and our ultimate goal is to give that back to our fans and the world. Everything we do is for the love of our fans and we couldn’t be more grateful to have the fans we have.
X-rays or any other treatments needed for band related injuries:
Other than a serious case of carpel tunnel syndrome, none that I can think of as a direct relation to being in the band.
You’re late for a show, who’s fault is it:
Usually it’s my fault as being on time does not seem to be my strong suit. No matter how much I try to be on time something always comes up that prevents me from getting to the venue when I need to be. I just claim bad luck, my bandmates claim it’s a serious case of being a space cadet. Either way, it’s never a serious issue as we have never missed a gig yet!
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band:
Honestly, I would say we are like a group of chimpanzees right before feeding time! We are hyper, funny, and always hungry!
