AP Tobler take on the A-Z challenge

Our A-Z challenge is a fun way to get to know the many band and artists out there. Here it’s the turn of AP Tobler to tell us all about themselves!

A song that made you want to make music?

In Bloom by Nirvana

Best rider you have had?

We haven’t had too many extensive riders, but I always like when they have free water bottles and snacks

Craziest moment in the band?

Opening for Destroy Boys in 2021

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

“I masquerade my pain with laughter,” or “Feeling you leave my bones is a hollowing truth.”

Easiest song you wrote?

Devoid was written in about 20 minutes

Favourite song in your set?

Lazy Eye or Claustrophobia

Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?

I’d love to collaborate with Pierce the Veil someday

Hardest thing about being in a band?

Scheduling with four people can be tough

Interesting fact about one of your members?

Adri, the bassist, is a really good beatboxer

Jokes you have in the band?

I forgot to lock the car once and now the band always asks me if I’ve locked the car when we park

Key to writing a song?

All you need is the will to create and to push aside the fear that it may suck

Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?

300 miles to Los Angeles

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

Deftones is my current biggest inspiration

New band you’d recommend?

Chaz Kiss

Opening for this band would be ideal?

Destroy Boys! We opened for them in 2021 and it was so cool, I’d love to do it again someday

Place you’d most like to tour?

South America or Central America

Quote that you’d like to pass on to our readers?

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Reason for the title of your forthcoming release?

I named the album “Parasite” as it’s general theme is self loathing and feeling like a social parasite

See us live at?

All around the Bay Area (and hopefully elsewhere soon!)

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

Yes and no. It’s a lot easier to get your music out there nowadays, which is great, but easy to get lost in a sea of art

Unusual merchandise?

Our merch is pretty standard at the moment, but I’d love to sell socks someday! We do have some unusual designs though, one is a frog knight wielding a mace, and the other is an inky cap mushroom with eyes

Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?

I’d love to have instrumental versions of my songs someday, with a guitar or synth playing the vocal melody

What do your fans mean to you?

Everything! It makes me so unbelievably happy to know that my music resonates with people and can even help them through tough times. I’m so glad that I get to share this bond through art

X-rays or any other treatments needed for band injuries?

I broke my elbow and was in a cast for a month, so I had to stick to only vocals for a little while

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

The drummer, Blake

Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?

Definitely a capybara, because we’re silly
