Altered Sky Take On The A-Z Questionnaire Challenge (AGAIN!)

Drummer and Vocalist Amy took on our A-Z Questionnaire Challenge, here are her answers!

Coming at you from Glasgow, and born out of hard work and absolute commitment, Altered Sky already have an array of impressive achievements including supporting We Are In The Crowd, Wonder Years, Decade, State Champs, A Loss For Words and Neck Deep, as well as playing Slam Dunk Scotland in 2014. The emerging tunesmiths have also headlined shows at The Garage in Glasgow and London’s famous 100 Club in Camden. Altered Sky have always embodied a strong DIY ethos ever since launching their self-financed debut EP, In This World. The five-some followed this release with their critically acclaimed Stop and Live EP, which further cemented the band’s growing reputation. In 2015, the Scottish rocksters released their self-funded debut album, Without Wonderland, with Romesh Dodangoda (Funeral For A Friend, Bullet For My Valentine, Bring Me The Horizon) at the helm. The album was lapped up by fans and industry tastemakers with Kerrang! Magazine awarding the record with a glowing KKKK review. The popular quintet dropped their video single Waves from the album, racking up acclaim from broadcasting legend ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris, as well as widespread radio airplay from Kerrang Radio, TeamRock and BBC Radio 2. The band have since gone on to pick up further praise from Apple Music and Huffington Post, as well as vastly multiplying their ever increasing fan-base.

Drummer and Vocalist Amy took on our A-Z Questionnaire Challenge, below are her answers:

A SONG WHICH MADE YOU WANT TO MAKE MUSIC:

Everything on Blink-182 – Enema of the State!

BEST RIDER YOU HAVE EVER HAD:

We’ve been really spoiled a few times with riders. Nothing over the top but all the food groups and cake…lots of cake!

CRAZIEST MOMENT YOU’VE EXPERIENCED IN THE BAND:

Playing and launching our debut album in HMV was pretty crazy! I would also have to say it’s always extremely surreal to hear our crowds chant our name before our shows!

DEEPEST LYRICS ONE OF YOUR SONGS FEATURES:

Take this life and live for it (Live For It)

EASIEST SONG YOU WROTE:

Apple Tree

FAVOURITE SONG IN YOUR SET:

I know one of our favourite songs to play live is definitely Live For It!

GUEST YOU’D MOST LIKE TO FEATURE ON YOUR RECORD:

Personally I would have to say it would be pretty cool to have Howard Jones feature on one of our songs!

HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING IN A BAND:

It’s difficult when we receive non constructive criticism sometimes or the occasions where people are deliberately cruel. We’re really lucky that it very rarely happens and we’re really grateful when our fans fight our corner!

INTERESTING FACT ABOUT ONE OF YOUR MEMBERS:

Ana has an obsession with making pizza bases out of anything but dough: i.e. Egg, noodles, mashed potato ….

JOKES YOU HAVE IN THE BAND:

We don’t have any particular jokes as such. We’re like a family, we like to poke innocent fun at each other.

KEY TO WRITING A SONG:

have a story, have determination and have patience.

LONGEST DISTANCE YOU’VE TRAVELLED TO PLAY A SHOW:

I think it would have to be Plymouth!

MOST INSPIRING MUSICIAN YOU’VE EVER EXPERIENCED:

David Bowie (in labyrinth). His passion is undeniable and he puts it into everything.

NEW BAND YOU’D RECOMMEND:

Our good friends in The Prophets have an extremely cool thing going on right now so definitely give their music a shot!

OPENING FOR THIS BAND WOULD BE IDEAL:

We’ve always thought it would be pretty nice to open for Young Guns.

PLACE YOU’D MOST LIKE TO TOUR:

We would love to tour in Japan. It’s a place we’d all love to visit, it would be amazing to be able to play shows there at the same time!

QUOTE THAT YOU’D LIKE TO PASS ON TO READERS:

There’s no point in living if you can’t feel alive.

REASON FOR THE TITLE OF YOUR RECENT/FORTHCOMING RELEASE:

We always like to go through the lyrics for all the songs and find ones that we feel create a good image that gives us ideas for artwork. We will always choose a name which we feel represents us and the music well!

SEE US LIVE AT:

21/8 Underground, Plymouth
22/8 Rainbow, Birmingham
23/8 Eiger Studios, Leeds
24/8 Maze, Nottingham
25/8 Garage, London
26/8 O2 Academy, Bristol
15/10 Garage, Glasgow

THE OLD DAYS OF MUSIC WERE BETTER THAN THOSE CURRENT, DO YOU AGREE:

As much as we love older music, I’d have to say that music now is just as important as music 30/40+ years ago. Anything can influence young bands and musicians to create new things and I know I’m excited to hear what future music makers have to bring to the table!

UNUSUAL MERCHANDISE:

On a recent tour, our photographer Lara Fullerton took polaroid pictures of us during the tour on each individual date so we had different shots on sale every night. It was fun to show different sides of our personalities and gave a bit of insight into the personal side of the band.

VARIATIONS YOU’D LIKE TO DO ON ANY OF YOUR SONGS:

I’m pretty sure we’ve always wanted to do a Jazz version of Live For It…

WHAT DO YOUR FANS MEAN TO YOU:

Our fans mean the absolute world to us. We have developed an extremely dedicated fanbase so far and we love them all so much! We hope our family will keep growing and remain as strong as it is right now. We are so grateful.

X-RAYS OR ANY OTHER TREATMENTS NEEDED FOR BAND RELATED INJURIES:

Nothing that bad has ever happened and we’re pretty grateful for that. Hopefully it’ll stay that way.

YOU’RE LATE FOR A SHOW, WHO’S FAULT IS IT:

Depends who’s driving and who’s in charge of getting us there!

ZOO ANIMAL THAT BEST DESCRIBES THE PERSONALITY OF YOUR BAND:

I would love to say that we’re Hyenas. We’re always having a laugh together.
