AlienBlaze takes on the A-Z challenge!

Our A-Z challenge is a fun way to get to know the many bands and artists around. Here its the turn of Blaze to tell us all about the life and career of AlienBlaze

A song that made you want to make music?

I would have to say Bring Me The Horizon‘s ‘That’s The Spirit’ album. I was 15 when I first heard it and it made such an impression on me with the lyricism and the structure of all the songs. I listened to a podcast by Oli after the release explaining how BMTH had written the album track by track. It inspired me so much because I consider that album a masterpiece.

Best rider you’ve had?

I haven’t really even thought much about that, but if asked it would be vegan hot chocolate!

Craziest moment you’ve experienced in your career?

When I was 17 and had uploaded one of my first tracks to Spotify called ‘Hate Me‘, I suddenly realised something was happening and I’d been added to two Spotify editorial playlists as a complete unknown artist. The largest playlist ‘Sludge’, also had BMTH on it and Oli tweeted me about my song saying it was ‘dope’ which was so kind of him and so amazing for me.

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

Worst Love is an intense song – I’ve got a hurricane for a heart, a passion that never lasts, got a temper like a fire now and my soul is an epigraph to you’

Easiest song you wrote?

Definitely my new track ‘Broken Hearted Or What?‘ which I wrote in five minutes on one of my electric guitars.

Favourite song in your set?

At Burn It Down Festival, I played some new unreleased material which I love singing live, but of released tracks probably Youmademefeelsomething because I consider it to be filmic and the breakdown at the end is intense.

Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?

Oli Sykes or Robert Smith

Hardest thing about being a musician?

Waiting

Interesting fact about you?

I never started out to be a singer, I wanted to be a shit hot lead guitarist.  I could play the guitar like a bloke before I ever turned to singing.

Jokes you like to tell on stage?

I haven’t actually done that but you’ve got me thinking!

Key to writing a song?

Don’t overthink it

Longest distance you’ve traveled to play a show?

So far to Torquay for Burn it Down Festival

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

There are so many bands and artists who inspire me it’s hard to name one. However, when I was 17 I saw Highly Suspect play and it was one of the most epic performances I’ve ever seen. Also The Cure at Rock en Seine festival performed a masterclass.

New band/artist you’d recommend?

Nessa Barrett because she’s doing similar music to me that crosses boundaries of genres because I personally like my music to be ‘genre-fluid.’

Opening for this band/artist would be ideal?

The Cure or Bring me the Horizon

Place you’d most like to tour?

Anywhere hot!  Probably the US

Quote you’d like to pass on to our readers?

‘I rebel, therefore I exist’ – Albert Camus

Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?

Broken Hearted or What? is just a feisty retort

See me live at?

Supporting Kid Brunswick on 6th October

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

I do agree yes. However, there are some advantages now to reach a wider audience much more quickly and the way music is recorded now is a much quicker process and more accessible to a larger number of people. However, I feel like being an artist should be about being authentic and true to yourself which is not easy in today’s 24 hour daylight of social media.

Unusual merchandise?

I would love to start my own clothing range at some point. I’ve made some of my own clothes for on stage with my mum and people always ask where they’re from and if I would make them for other people! We do all the sewing by hand though not with a sewing machine so it takes a while.

Variations you’d like to do on any of your tracks?

Yes for sure. I would like to maybe re release some of my older tracks with features on for instance, and add more to the production to make them  more filmic.

What do your fans mean to you?

Everything because without them my music won’t be heard

X-rays or any treatment needed for gig-related injuries?

No

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

We’re always early to everything but if I was it would be transport related

Zoo animal that best describes your personality?

I would have to say any of the big cats because I have a personal affinity towards them, but I love all animals as I’m vegan and I don’t think animals should be kept in captivity, especially not orcas or dolphins.
