HOT TAKES: Getting to know Redwood

1 – Who is in your band?

Alex Birchall (lead vocalist, rhythm guitar), Jamie Richards (lead guitar, sound design), Conor Bond (bass, backing vocals), Toby Fassioms (drums), Edan Brown (lead guitar).

2 – What is your take on your own sound?

An absolute mix of everything from indie to post-rock with tinges of old school emo and a little bit of pop sprinkled in there as well. I don’t think we try to conform to any sound, we just write what we think sounds nice without trying to constrain it to one school of thought.

3 – If someone was listening to your music for the first time, what song would you tell them to listen to and why?

I would personally say something like Mother or In Your Arms so that person would get a feel for what we’re about most of the time. Shimmery ambience and big choruses. Depends what they’re in to though I suppose. If they were a straight up post-rock fan I’d suggest they listen to Paragazer. Balls to the wall instrumental madness.

4 – What is the plan for 2020?

To try and forget about it immediately but also keep fighting for those who aren’t treated with the respect and justice they deserve.

5 – What is the one song you wish you wrote?

All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey (Imagine writing a song that will NEVER go out of style, whilst still being an absolute rager. Come to think of it, imagine the royalties Mariah STILL receives every year… Unfathomable.)

6 – What three bands/artists inspired you or continue to inspire you the most?

From Indian Lakes.
