Hot Takes: Getting to know Oceans Ate Alaska

Welcome to the feature; Hot Takes! We chat to a band or artist that we have unearthed as some what of a hidden gem and allow them the chance to introduce themselves to you, the reader.

1 – Who is in your band?

James Harrison (Vocals) Chris Turner (Drums) James ‘Jibs’ Kennedy (Guitar) Adam Zytkiewicz (Guitar) Mike Stanton (Bass)

2 – What is your take on your sound?

We are a group of guys that are trying to make music that gets us excited. If the parts we lay down don’t make us stand up, burst out with laughter or bang our heads to then why would we want to release that into the world knowing we aren’t stoked on it ourselves? OAA’s music is an influence driven experience, we are not in the game to tick boxes, its all about the fun.

3 – If someone was listening to your music for the first time, what song would you tell them to listen to and why?

Metamorph is a good example of where the band is at right now, it incorporates a lot of our current influences with Lo-fi whilst also delving into our heavy roots with deathcore. I would say it’s also quite dynamically rich which should give listeners a feel for how this track has developed from the older albums.

4 – What is the plan for 2022?

Write more bangers and play shows all around the world. Let’s make it happen!

5 – What song do you wish you had written?

TotoAfrica

6 – What three bands inspired/continue to inspire you?

Bonobo – His variety and exploration with electronic music is what inspires us to try to develop a limitless approach to composition.

The Plot In You – Landon has always demonstrated deep emotive delivery in his performance which makes us feel something. If we can get our listeners to grab onto our music in a similar way then that’s a win in our books. Great guys as well

Beartooth – Great band that have made such a progressive upswing in the genre it’s hard not to like and admire them.

7 – Where can our readers see you live/listen to your music?

You can stream our music on most if not all streaming platforms, some of our older catalogue is available physically as well!

We are about to embark on a headline UK Tour this September! Head to our socials for tickets and info!

8 – If your band was an animal, what animal would you be and why?

Platypus cause we are a mix of a bunch of crazy but kinda sick things!
