HOT TAKES: Getting To Know Oberst

Welcome to the feature; Hot Takes! We chat to a band or artist that we have unearthed as some what of a hidden gem and allow them the chance to introduce themselves to you, the reader.

Q1 – Who is in your band?

Oberst consists of Tarjei on guitar and vocals, Dennis on guitar, Joakim on bass and vocals, and Johan on drums.

Q2 – What is your take on your own sound?

We have a mutual understanding of how we want to sound, and what the “Oberst sound” is all about. So when we write music it’s important to us that the song or riff ends up sounding like us. We have a lot of influences in common, ranging from Mastodon, Converge, Baroness, Oathbreaker, Kvelertak, and a lot more. Our sound can probably best be described as metal, with a dash of post-hardcore, post-metal, prog and rock.

Q3 – If someone was listening to your music for the first time, what song would you tell them to listen to and why?

Probably the song ‘Goddess’, it’s one of those songs that sounds the most like us. There’s just a lot of Oberst-quirks packed into one song.

Q4 – What is the plan for 2020?

The plan for 2020 is to play live as much as possible and promote the album. We’re also writing our next album as we speak.

Q5 – What is the one song you wish you wrote?

Hearts Alive’ by Mastodon, perhaps.

Q6 – What three bands inspired or continue to inspire you the most?

Three is way too few, but Mastodon, Cult Of Luna and Converge should be mentioned.

Q7 – Where can our readers see you live or listen to your music?

We’ll mostly be playing in Norway, at least this season, but let us know if you want to book us to your country!

Our music is on iTunes, Amazon Spotify:

You can also get our album on vinyl or CD through Indie Recordings:

Q8 – If your band was an animal, what would it be and why?

Probably the GOAT.
