HOT TAKES: Getting to know Haunt The Woods

Welcome to the feature; Hot Takes! We chat to a band or artist that we have unearthed as some what of a hidden gem and allow them the chance to introduce themselves to you, the reader.

Q1 – Who is in your band?

Jonathan Stafford

Olly Bignell

Phoenix Elleschild

Jack Hale

Q2 – What is your take on your own sound?

It is something we have been asked a lot, but we all find incredibly difficult to define. We all have very different influences and we’ve always said the combination of those influences, and the creative friction is what makes something we hopefully think is in a small way, quite unique. We all love dynamics, the power and emotive quality of music that can be minimalistic one minute and crushingly loud the next.

Q3 – If someone was listening to your music for the first time, what song would you tell them to listen to and why?

We would say to listen to any of the songs of the new album Ubiquity as it is our most collaborative and ambitious collection of work to date, so it really covers all bases on musical tastes and genres – there is something for everyone on there. The album is written as a cohesive “whole” body of work, so each song is an expression or exploration on the greater topics on the record. We very much recommend listening to the album as a whole piece. But our personal favourite and pick would be Said and Done.

Q4 – What is the plan for the rest of 2023?

We are planning on getting back into the studio (Middle Farm) in the winter, to start working on the second album, and hopefully get an EP together to release next year. Along with some live playthroughs of some tracks off the new album, with some of the fantastic players over at Parallax Orchestra.

There are also plans – to be announced – to head off on tour, so keep an eye on our socials for the dates.

Q5 – What is the one song you wish you wrote?

Happy Birthday, imagine the royalties?!

Q6 – What three bands inspired or continue to inspire you the most?

Pink Floyd

Radiohead

System Of A Down

Q7 – Where can our readers see you live or listen to your music?

Our music is available on all streaming channels, so in all the usual places, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music. They are also able to follow us on our social media channels to keep up to date on shows, touring and any announcements that we have. All our touring dates are available from our website, as well as being able to purchase merchandise.

Q8 – If your band was an animal, what would it be and why?

A chameleon because we’re constantly shifting our colours throughout a record.
