Q1 – Who is in your band?
Luke, singer; Pete, drummer; Rory, guitarist and Adam, guitarist – we all met through playing in bands in our local music scene in Edinburgh while we were young bois. Pete and I met at a Battle of the Bands on a farm when we were 15 and always wanted to play in a band together. We eventually did in 2020 and happydaze was born. I went to college with Rory and we played in a couple of metal bands together when we were younger. I produced Adam’s old band at the end of 2019, the man could shred so hard we had to steal him.
Q2 – What is your take on your own sound?
We’re a mixture of familiar sounds while embracing the beauty of modern production – we never feel limited to a genre when writing, we just create what we enjoy listening to. We all love rock, metal, pop-punk but also a massive love for all things electronic. My favourite bands are the ones who cross genres and influences without fear of genre ‘purists’ haha.
Q3 – If someone was listening to your music for the first time, what song would you tell them to listen to and why?
The answer to this would probably change every day, right now I would say the opening track to our new record ‘Full Free Radical’, ‘Faded’ – it has all the elements of what makes a happydaze song tick for me, it was also the first song we wrote for this record which took us on the journey to the rest of the songs. It also rips live.
Q4 – What is the plan for 2023?
– We have a new record to show the world and we want to play it in as many places as possible. We’re always writing and have a bunch of new songs coming together, who knows how soon they’ll see the light of day! We’re playing No Play festival in Liverpool in August with some dope bands, if you’re local to it definitely come down – it’s their first year doing it and its gonna be awesome.
Q5 – What is the one song you wish you wrote?
There’s probably lots of cool answers to this, but when Dave Grohl got asked this and said he’d have taken ‘Happy Birthday’ straight to the bank, I could only agree haha.
Q6 – What three bands inspired or continue to inspire you the most?
Blink 182 – Untitled, Enter Shikari – Take to the Skies and Underoath – Lost in the Sound of Separation are three records that will never get old for me. The mixture of sounds, genres and song writing between these three records shaped the way I’ve written songs forever. There are elements of at least one of these bands and their production styles throughout all our songs
Q7 – Where can our readers see you live or listen to your music?
You can listen to our music on all streaming platforms – we have music videos for most of our songs on YouTube and you can talk to us on Instagram, Twitter and TikTok @happydazeuk
