HOT TAKES: Getting to Know AViVA

Welcome to the feature; Hot Takes! We chat to a band or artist that we have unearthed as some what of a hidden gem and allow them the chance to introduce themselves to you, the reader.

1 – Who is in your band?

I am AViVA.

2 – What is your take on your own sound?

I think that’s your polite way of asking what genre I’d call my music… Don’t worry, I’m not offended.  If I had to put it down in words, I’d say it’s dark emo-pop mixed with old-school rock and punk sensibilities. I write songs about people not partying and I think that’s an important part of the AViVA brand.

3 – If someone was listening to your music for the first time, what song would you tell them to listen to and why?

I would say listen to BRN. It’s a strong song with an important message, I’m all about not fitting in and not wanting to fit in, and I want to encourage people to have to confidence to realise they can be the same! I think BRN really gets that attitude across.

4 – What is the plan for 2020?

Plans for 2020? Survive. Most of my 2020 plans were centred around touring, all of which has been postponed or moved till 2021. So for 2020 my plans have been to keep releasing great music and writing. 2021 is the year we’re going to get back on the road around Europe, the UK and the US. We’ll also be dabbling in some shows around Asia… this is all assuming it’s safe to do so. Safety first!

5 – What is the one song you wish you wrote?

I wish I had written Carmen by Bizet. The music in that is absolutely exquisite.

6 – What three bands/artists inspired you or continue to inspire you the most?

My favourite band of all time is The Smiths, I also love Kate Bush and I’m a huge Lana Del Rey fan. I love people that make music that makes you feel something. I don’t care about genre so long as I’m feeling things. I always strive to be making music that stirs feelings in the people that listen to it as well.

7 – Where can our readers see you live or listen to your music?

People can see me live when I tour, but you’ll need to be following my across my socials @thisisaviva to find out when that will be! Otherwise, you can enjoy my music from any of the digital streaming platforms as well as on Youtube and I even have my debut album Volume I available as a vinyl, CD and cassette tape. So basically, if you want to listen, I have a way to make that happen.

8 – If you were an animal, what would it be and why?

If I was an animal I would be a cat because they don’t take anyone’s s*** they are elegant, but also adventurous. All the things I try to be. So yes, I’m basically a cat.
