LIVE REVIEW – Creeper at Tramshed, Cardiff

Take a look at what went down as the vampires in Creeper and Mistress of Death took to the stage at Tramshed in Cardiff.

Creeper kicked off their short run of UK shows on the Off With Their Heads tour at Tramshed in Cardiff on October 9.

First up was Starbenders and I have to say, last time I saw them live, I wasn’t too impressed, but this time they were better. The live show seemed tighter although in all honesty, it wasn’t for me but the crowd enjoyed them and I’m glad they did.

Calva Louise put on a really good show and I was impressed with drummer Ben throughout. His work on the kick drum was insane.

We had the first play of new single La Promisa and it was a really good song and Jess’ vocals throughout the set were really good.

In the changeover, the stage was obscured by a white screen and the house music was a bit like a radio broadcast which was really cool.

When it was time to start, a projection and voiceover played to introduce the story and Creeper kick off with Blood Magick (It’s a Ritual) and waste no time in captivating the crowd who screamed every word back at Will.

From start to finish the band had the crowd hanging off every note, word and action, with a really cool moment when Will used a rotary phone as a microphone for a song.

Hannah delighted with her solos, showcasing some amazing vocals and coming out of a coffin for Razor Wire.

It was a mix of energy and emotion with the likes of Parasite and Teenage Sacrifice mixing with More Than Death.

The tour was in celebration of the Sanguivore albums, but the encore – which came after the ‘beheading’ of Will by the Mistress of Death – was the standout for me as someone who fell in love with the band during the early part of their career, with Black Rain, Suzanne and ending with Misery.

Misery was extended as the crowd took it upon themselves to continue singing the chorus with Will looking visibly moved before he spoke about how amazing it was to have the crowd making the legacy of Creeper songs live on, and then finishing the song with the help of the crowd.

It was a brilliant night of live music and theatrics.
