In today’s A-Z challenge, we find out all about Acres!
A song that made you want to make music?
I think it was either Stay Together For The Kids by Blink 182 or My Own Summer by Deftones. Growing up I was into all the nu metal and pop punk bands that were around in the late 90’s / early 2000’s but I think these songs just had a vibe I gravitated to and made me want to make something as cool.
Best rider you have had?
We asked for a photo of Louis Theroux and a bottle of Champagne on one tour, thinking no one would actually do it. Some venues actually did it and it was very funny.
Craziest moment in the band?
I think the last 18 months have been pretty crazy. We’ve been on the biggest tours the bands have ever done, wrote and recorded a record in the states and gearing up to head out with The Devil Wears Prada and a few shows with Beartooth.
Deepest lyric one of your songs features?
We have a song called Lullaby. The lyric that sticks out the most is “I can’t take your pain away, but I can wish that it was mine”.
Easiest song you wrote?
The Host was written and recorded in 4 weeks. We headed to Detroit with next to nothing and with Landon’s help we left with our new record. So I would say this whole release
Favourite song in your set?
Built to Bleed. It’s such a fun song to play.
Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?
There’s so many! Personally, I would like Sam Carter from Architects. I’ve looked up to that band for such a long time. I grew up going to their shows. We’re both from the south coast of the UK. It would be a full circle moment, for sure!
Hardest thing about being in a band?
Being away from home. Missing your loved ones, missing important days. Not being able to plan ahead. It’s really tough sometimes.
Interesting fact about one of your members?
Jack, our bassist is a graphic designer who has worked for huge bands like Green Day, MCR and Paramore.
Jokes you have in the band?
There’s way too many to count.
Key to writing a song?
I think when a song you wrote is your favourite song, even for a bit, it’s a good one. If you don’t fuck with the music you’re writing. No one will.
Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?
We’ve toured America three times in the last 18 months. That’s pretty far.
Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?
I think working with Landon on The Host was very inspiring for all of us. The dude is a song writing machine.
New band you’d recommend?
These bands aren’t super new but I really dig Moodring, Thornhill, Static Dress, Boundaries and Thrown right now. They’re all doing really cool things.
Opening for this band would be ideal?
Again, I would love to tour with Architects.
Place you’d most like to tour?
I’ve wanted to go to Australia for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching Steve Irwin.
Quote that you’d like to pass on to our readers?
“Hey Gilian. Fuck yo grapes” – Adam Demamp – Workaholics
Reason for the title of your forthcoming release?
The Host is what we named the thing you can’t live without, It doesn’t have a physical form, but it could be anything that you think has an insidious impact on you. It’s about trying to break those habits in different situations whether it’s an addiction, a relationship, a job, or anything else. This was the loose thematic blueprint for the record.
See us live at?
Every venue that the Metalcore Spring Break Tour is hitting.
The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?
Not at all. Music feels like its the most exciting its ever been. So many of our friends are killing it and being in Acres feels very special right now.
Unusual merchandise?
I don’t think we’ve ever done anything usual. We sold a signed banana once.
Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?
A deathcore version would be wild! We’ve released a few different variations of your songs in the past.
What do your fans mean to you?
I know it’s super cliche but without them we wouldn’t be doing this. So, everything.
X-rays or any treatments needed for band injuries?
I don’t think anyone has really injured themselves yet! Ben’s eyes are magnets for injuries.
You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?
It could be anyones! We’re really good at oversleeping and love stopping at service stations.
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?
I’d say turtles because they’re the only animals I can think of that fuck with pizza.
Acres’ new album The Host is out now.
