In today’s A-Z challenge, we find out all about Frequency Overload!
A song that made you want to make music?
I would have to go way back. The first band that made me pick up a hairbrush and sing into it was Led Zeppelin, the Immigrant Song.
Best rider you’ve had?
Pretty sure you are talking hospitality rider, not groupie, so I’ll be honest. We are a mere 3 yrs old with one album…we have not toured yet.
Craziest moment you’ve had in the band?
That would definitely be at rehearsal at my house. We rehearse in the garage, which is attached to a now empty apartment on the first floor. I keep my snake, a female eastern indigo, down there and she somehow had gotten out of the enclosure…there we are in the middle of a song when a 6 foot black snake comes slithering in like the garden of eden!
Deepest lyric one of your songs features?
I would have to say the song Sunburn, written about the loss of Mr. Bush’s brother Robert.
“The day I named my son for you, I stepped away from hate, and yea my daughters heard of you, though knowing you was not their fate”…that one gives ya the feels.
Easiest song you wrote?
Four Years Dead off the Fate Anthropic album kinda wrote itself in 5 minutes.
Favourite song in your set?
I would say the single NOT I is my personal favorite. Has all the elements that reflect us as a band.
Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?
We feature Joey Z from Life Of Agony on backing vocals on the Fate Anthropic album…so for the next album we are planning on featuring Frank Mullen, the founding vocalist of Suffocation.
Hardest thing about being in a band?
Time and money. It takes money to make money. We all have careers, full time jobs, and families that prevent us from taking some of the risks that would likely lead to reward.
Interesting fact about one of your members?
Front man Mr. Bush was a snake breeder for 15 years. He had a business called Cold Blooded Playthings where he would breed and sell reptiles, as well as do kids parties and educational exhibits. He even went to a crocodile school where he ended up in the water at a zoo with 8 foot alligators.
Jokes you have in the band?
We call Kevin our drummer Captain Clock, after the Jinjer song, because everything is down to the minute with him..” I’ll be there at 6:42 ish”.
Key to writing a song?
Don’t overthink or force it…channel the writer in the darkness peeking at you, or come back to it later.
Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?
Being together for only a few years, and only recently being signed to Sodeh records, we havent gone too far. The epic cornerstone of New Jersey metal, DINGBATZ, we played, that’s a couple of hundred miles.
Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?
Joey Z from Life Of Agony. Not only did he engineer the Fate Anthropic album, and hop on backing vocals on a couple of tracks… but he became a mentor and a dear friend. If you’ve seen the documentary “The Sound Of Scars” on Amazon, you know the adversity he has faced and overcome. He’s a true A+ human.
New band you’d recommend?
I would recommend everyone research Idiot Box. These guys really tickle my fancy.
Opening for this band would be ideal?
Volbeat, because they aren’t easily definable either. Also Bush was label mates with Mike Poulsen many years ago when I was in Welt and he was in Dominus! Always wanted to meet him.
Place you’d most like to tour?
Europe! Where metal is celebrated at the dining table and grandmothers wear Slayer T Shirts!
Quote you’d like to pass on to our readers?
“NEVER SETTLE FOR LESS THAN METAL” rip Tom from None of The Above Records.
Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?
The reason for the title FATE ANTHROPIC is interesting. You see we didn’t want to follow everyone else and name the album after a song, or specifically the first song. So the first song or “title track”, is The Pain Factor…. Fate Anthropic is an anagram of those letters, but also means the destiny of man.
See us live at?
Our next big gig is 4/18/25 in Patchouge NY at the acclaimed Stereo Garden!
But we also have many others scheduled on our gig page at www.frequencyoverload.com
The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?
That’s a dual edge sword. Although the artists are getting ripped off by the streaming services, we can also get a fan in Germany overnight with a release….so maybe bad for the artist but good for the music itself.
Unusual merchandise?
We have bullet casing engraved keychains, this goes with the song Love and Bullets… we also have a branded IPA called Grand Pappi Ale! This is made by our friends at North Fork Brewery in Riverhead NY.
Variations you’d like to do on any of your songs?
Yes, our friend Louis Megna of the band Native Son, wrote a keyboard version of “Here comes the bride”, for us. We have been using it as an intro to our song Love And Bullets when we play live… so that may get done.
What do your fans mean to you?
Our fans mean everything. No reason to leave the rehearsal space without their support. We are very fortunate to have the great fans/friends that we do. Slowly but surely we are gaining a following and creating a buzz.
X-rays or any treatments needed for band related injuries?
I won’t say who in the band, and not sure its band related, but one member had to have their ass cauterized. You see there was an abscess on his exit.
You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?
Not Kevin Daily our drummer! We call him Mr. Logistics! I would have to say Corey our guitarist. He has to the most equipment typically with a guitar in 2 tunings and a back up for each….so 4 guitars.
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?
Definitely the mountain gorilla. We are threatened, but us and our fellow metalheads are strong enough to save the species. Intelligent, diverse, and majestic. And Steve Little, our bassist, craps in the woods.
