In today’s Hot Takes feature, we find out more about Silent Child!
Q1 – Who is in your band?
My name is Rodney Cooke and I am the producer, singer and songwriter known as Silent Child.
Which has recently added Kevin Hissink as guitarist and co-producer.
Q2 – What is your take on your own sound?
My songs can be gritty, but also smooth. Even my soft songs won’t stay soft for more than 30
seconds. I like to combine a lot of elements from a multitude of genres to build out my tracks.
Q3 – If someone was listening to your music for the first time, what song would you tell them
to listen to and why?
No one song really defines my sound currently as really I’m still growing into it. However, the one closest to what I’m growing into would probably be my song “Can’t Get Away“, which comes out this week. I just feel like at this point in my career, the stuff that I will be releasing from here on is definitely the best version of Silent Child so far.
Q4 – What is the plan for the rest of 2024?
Play another show hopefully and release some more music that people love.
Q5 – What is the one song you wish you wrote?
Cage The Elephant – Broken Boy.
Q6 – What three bands inspired or continue to inspire you the most?
Cage The Elephant, The Black Keys, and lately, Twenty One Pilots.
Q7 – Where can our readers see you live or listen to your music?
I’m currently in Atlanta, Georgia. So you can definitely see me here, but hopefully soon I will be everywhere. As far as listening goes, I am everywhere, but Spotify would be my choice.
Q8 – If your band was an animal, what would it be and why?
I think it would be an eagle. I just got some more growing to do sonically and visually, but I’m close and I feel like very soon when those wings kick in and it’s time to fly, there’s no coming down.
