In today’s A-Z challenge, we asked Ryan Woods to take on the challenge and tell us all about themselves!
A song that made you want to make music?
Locked out of Heaven by Bruno Mars.
Best rider you have had?
We asked for chips and guacamole and someone from the venue made the guac from scratch and it was so tasty!
Craziest moment you’ve experienced in music?
I met Doja Cat in a studio we were both working at and we traded vapes and then she bought me Jack in the Box.
Deepest lyric one of your songs features?
“I shouldn’t have a reason to hate you, but you’re making it easy to try.”
Easiest song you wrote?
Bad Texter
Favorite song in your set?
Sorry / happysad
Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?
Tame Impala
Hardest thing about being a musician?
Staying true to yourself…
Interesting fact about you?
I am ¼ Filipino.
Jokes you like to tell?
I love to tell people I’m around 6ft tall (I’m 5’8) and convincing people that they are taller than they thought they were. It is very fun for me.
Key to writing a song?
The key to me is balance. I think of a song like a smoothie, and as you make it you add different ingredients to make it taste better. Too much of this makes it too sweet, too much of that makes it too thick, etc.
Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?
To kick off my first headline tour, we drove our van from LA all the way to New York City. We also got stuck in a blizzard in the middle of Colorado that extended the trip by like two days it was so much fun!
Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?
Tame Impala at Outside Lands 2021 in San Francisco. His music has inspired me ever since i started making music in middle school.
New band/artist you’d recommend?
Tamino is the bestttt, although he’s not too new, he’s European and I feel like a lot of Americans don’t know about him yet!
Opening for this band/artist would be ideal?
I think Rex Orange County or ROLE MODEL would be really cool and a great fit for my music 🙂
Place you’d most like to tour?
I want to tour in Asia so bad! Being part Filipino I love the cultures and food in that part of the world so much!
Quote that you’d like to pass on to our readers?
“If you don’t like the smell of shit, then don’t sniff it!”
Reason for the title of your forthcoming release?
My next original release will be called “Gun in the Glovebox”. My dad used to hide a pistol and cigarettes and stuff like that in his, and one day I went in there looking for napkins and when I saw what he was hiding he got onto me because he didn’t want me to know he smoked cigarettes and definitely did not want me to mess around with his gun lol. I used the whole concept as a metaphor for relationships, and how when you’re getting to know somebody you tend to hide certain parts of yourself from them until you can fully trust them.

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?
I don’t really like to compare musical eras because I think they’re all very special in their own way. I think right now is special because we’re in this sort of “technological renaissance” as i like to call it; where more people than ever have the ability to develop a platform for their art through social media and technology. I think this is a really beautiful time of freedom and expression for artists everywhere!
Unusual merchandise?
I made custom pillows once for a single I released called “Pillow”
Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?
“Bad Texter” (Pop Punk Remix)
What do your fans mean to you?
I mean they are everything. I think it’s a really beautiful symbiotic relationship full of love and appreciation for one another.
X-rays or any treatments needed for performance-related injuries?
I myself have not been injured but I did accidentally slap my entire front row audience in the face with a microphone cable because I fist pumped super hard with the mic in my hand. I apologized and we laughed it off, oopsies!
You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?
Probably mine because I have to pee profusely before shows.
Zoo animal that best describes your personality?
Probably a sloth because those guys are always just chilling so hard. I like to chill and live my life very slowly but I also like to climb things.
