Floya take on the A-Z challenge

Our A-Z challenge is a fun way to get to know the many bands and artists out there! Today it’s the turn of Floya to tell us all about themselves!

A song that made you want to make music?

Phil: “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel
Marv: “Breaking The Habit” by Linkin Park

Best rider you’ve ever had?

N/A.

Craziest moment in the band?

Marv: Seeing our song “The Hymn” on Australian television (during an AFL game)

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

Marv: “Have you ever wondered how the waves restore their shape though they’re crashing everyday?” – ‘Wonders

Easiest song you wrote?

Marv: “Stay” – That one was the last song we finished for the album and it came along absolutely natural, I believe we finished that one in a week.

Favourite song in your set?

Marv: “Willows” – Easily the most dance-inducing song in the set with a crazy drop in the middle section.

Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?

Marv: Too many to just think of one… Probably Porter Robinson, Amber DeLaRosa, Tennyson, Chris Martin, Peter Gabriel and so on..

Hardest thing about being in a band?

Phil: The constant pressure – You’ll get used to it eventually, but at times it can really get to you. Staying positive throughout all the hardships involved with this career can be pretty difficult.

Key to writing a song?

Phil: I don’t think there’s THE key to writing a song. We can all probably agree on the fact that it’s different for everyone and it’s also different for every song..

Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?

Phil: That must’ve probably been Radar Festival. Travelled all the way from Western Germany to Manchester, England by car and boat for a single show.

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

Phil: Most inspiring musician that I’ve watched in recent years was Porter Robinson I think. His down to earth attitude and positive nature is severely addictive. Let alone his organic & synthetic fusion of sounds.

New band you’d recommend?

Phil: Probably “Moxy, The Band”. Don’t even remember how I found them, but I found their debut album absolutely gorgeous. And they’ve got only about 20k listeners on Spotify last time I checked – an absolute crime.

Opening for this band would be ideal?

Phil: Coldplay

Place you’d most like to tour?

Phil: Australia, as that place makes me feel at home the most.

Reason for the title of your forthcoming release?

Phil: ‘‘Yume’ is the Japanese word for dream. In a nutshell, when Marv & I split from our previous projects, we didn’t know if we would ever get to do music as a career again. In the end we gave it another shot and chose to follow this dream once more.

See us live at?

Phil: We’re gonna host a special release party in support of the album on March 9th in Essen, Germany. Check our socials for more. Other than that we’re currently putting together a little headline run throughout Germany around May. Details will follow.

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

Phil: Yes and no. I don’t feel like it’s even comparable. We enjoy the benefits that modern technology offers musicians these days, nonetheless, the old days had their benefits as well – everything was a little more affordable, especially touring. Inflation hits this industry as well, though not a lot gets adjusted to the situation.

Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?

Phil: There are always things you’d like to change in your songs at some point, I guess we’ll just change how they’re being played live in the future depending on how we feel about them.

What do your fans mean to you?

Phil: Everything. We’re absolutely fortunate that they’re growing in numbers with every passing day, enabling us to grow as well and most importantly let us do what we wanna do.

X-rays or any treatments needed for band injuries?

Phil: Fortunately no injuries so far!

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

Phil: That would most definitely be my fault haha.

Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?

N/A
