Anyone looking for a super talented, incredibly young band needs to look to Room 22. For fans of Green Day, these kids are absolutely killing Hull right now, and aren’t stopping there.
First hearing them last November, supporting BMX legend Rick Thorne, the lads absolutely blew me away with their live performance, and their new single Ricky Spanish is just as impressive!
The tune has a massive rhythm section, cool guitar parts, vocals way past frontman Harry Jackson’s age, and a real understanding of songwriting.
The song has a rough, unrefined feel to it, and everything works incredibly well together, leaving space when needed, attacking appropriately and has an interesting outro, which is a nice change.
Something the band could really work toward, however, is maturing their sound and trying to make something really unique within their music. There’s a lot that can still be done, such as exploring different tempos, time changes, different rhythms and dynamics, slower/clean sections and potentially use of backing vocals.
These guys are definitely a trio to look out for, and I have a great feeling about the EP, but in the meantime, everyone needs to see these guys live as soon as possible!
