ALTERNATIVE MUSIC REVIEWS

PVRIS, ABC O2, Glasgow

Heading to the ABC O2 for this gig, I couldn't wait to see PVRIS again. They had impressed me with their support slot on the Bring Me The Horizon tour and I could tell by the buzz of the crowd inside the venue that I wasn't the only one who was excited to see PVRIS.

Iodine Sky – Tides

When you think Manchester you initially think gloomy lyrics a-la Joy Division and, soft melodies like those of The Smiths, however, anthemic songs with catchy hooks may not be necessarily something that comes to mind. Manchester based quartet, Iodine Sky have set out to change that!

BLACK PEAKS – STATUES

It's pretty bizarre what's going on with that gentleman's face on the cover, but weird doesn't always equal bad. In fact, when you hear this album, you may just agree with that sentiment...

Dead! @ Shadow Sounds, Glasgow

For this gig I took a trip south of the River Clyde to the intimate venue, Shadow Sound. With this being a small venue in the back of a rehearsal studio, there is no bar, and with its BYOB policy it has a great community feel...

Vessels – Cute Cute Death | Album Review

We took a listen to Vessel, the debut album from Post-Hardcore quintet, Cute Cute Death. Find out what we though inside...

Vinyl hero – Seven Days on a Train

Go on, if you like early Nickelback (go on, deny it) or Queens of the Stone Age and fancy putting a smile on your face, buy a ticket and ride the Vinyl Hero train.

AshestoAngels @ Garage Attic, Glasgow

Ashestoangels in their set, whether by design or by luck included everyone in the crowd, with Crilly seeming to have the ability to make eye contact with everyone in the crowd at once, making you feel for forty five minutes that you belong there.

The Dead XIII at Shadow Sound Glasgow

Gareth Rooke went and saw Magic Trik, Griever and headliners, The Dead XIII in Glasgow. The New Grave rockers were in the midst of their tour as they tour their latest release 'Catacombs'. Read what Gareth thought here...

Maven, Altered Sky and Last Vendetta @ Joiners Southampton

This gig trip was a sort of home coming for me. I had been a year since I had left Southampton and moved to Glasgow and what better way to celebrate than with a gig by some fantastic upcoming artists!

Butcher Babies/Sumo Cyco/ Dethias @ The Globe, Cardiff

It's pure metal mayhem in Cardiff as America's Butcher Babies are joined by Canadian's Sumo Cyco as their tour hits The Globe for the first of two Welsh dates.

Summer City – Reprobates

Summer City have been injecting a ray of sunshine into the lives of those who have had the pleasure of coming across them and the sun has literally come out while I've been listening to their brand new EP Reprobates (out April 22nd).

Elessar – Reflections

Elessar have put together a polished EP, the structure is well thought out, mixed with a clean production. Reflections shows that they are on a road, to not sit in traffic but be at the front of the F1 grid.

Speaking In Shadows, The Classic Grand, Glasgow

For tonight's gig I headed over to The Classic Grand in Glasgow to see some of the best UK underground alt-rock bands.

Nothing But Thieves, Sundara Karma & Black Foxxes @ Trinity Centre, Bristol

On Saturday, I was lucky enough to get the chance to see one of my favourite bands, Nothing But Thieves, live for the first time. The sold out show at Bristol’s Trinity Centre exceeded all expectations I had for the night.

The People The Poet – Paradise Closed

The EP is a fantastic release from the 4 piece. Following on from the storytelling of The Narrator, Paradise Closed, is another indie infused belter that showcases the lyrical and musical talent The People The Poet possess.
