Valleys Soundfest 2016

Valleys Soundfest is an alternative music festival that is held by students on the Music Technology course at Coleg Y Cymoedd. Each year the festival benefits a chosen charity, the past couple of years it has been the charity Love Hope Strength Foundation UK. The festival showcases up and coming artists, both locally and nationally as well as college bands.

Saosin – Along The Shadow

‘Along The Shadow’ is a triumphant return from the heavyweights of post-hardcore. Admirably they don’t just reclaim their throne at the very top of this genre, they also inject some much needed life into it.

The People The Poet @ Undertone 14/05/16

Although small, tonight went well. It is nice to see a packed club, showing that people still enjoy actual live bands. All acts were outstanding. The People The Poet, The Broadcasts and Vince James all showed that true talent really does still exist.

Brick + Mortar at The Boulder Theater

When someone offered me an extra ticket to see The Front Bottoms in Boulder, CO, I leapt at the opportunity. I drove upstate to attend the show and waited around the back of the crowd for the headliners to come on. From here, I had a beautiful view of the most entertaining opening performance I've ever seen.

Andy Black @ Tramshed, Cardiff

Cardiff's newest live music venue was the destination for the Welsh leg of Andy Black's Homecoming Tour and quite shockingly, the sun was out! Andy released debut solo album The Shadow Side on the 6th May, a very different direction from his Black Veil Brides day job but a great release!

Miami Monroe – Knots & Crosses (EP)

This EP was such a great listen, the band certainly have a lot of big things ahead of them. Hopefully they follow up with a new EP soon with tracks as great as they already have.

Patriot Rebel – Cynics Playground

Being my first experience with Patriot Rebel, Cynics Playground is certainly an excellent way to get introduced to them. This EP has gotten me totally hooked on them and I’m craving more, live shows, new releases, anything to keep my new found love for them burning. This is definitely one of my new favourite EPs and I encourage you to pick up a copy for yourself as soon as you can.

VEXXES – Common Ground (EP)

Overall this EP is definitely worth a listen, loved all of these tracks! I would love to hear these songs live, hopefully sometime in the future I can come along to a local gig! Overall rating, I'd give them 9/10!

Cardinal Bay – Answers EP

Drawing comparisons from Mallory Knox and Saosin throughout the five hard-rocking songs that appear on this EP. Cardinal Bay are probably one of the best post-hardcore newcomers of 2016.

Tiny Moving Parts – Celebrate | Track By Track

Formed by brothers Matthew and Billy Chevalier and cousin Dylan Mattheisen, from Benson, Minnesota. The album gives you a major pop punk feel across the 10 tracks and Kirsty gave her thoughts - track by track!

MODERN BASEBALL – HOLY GHOST

"It's nice to hear Modern Baseball's success story, from college students to selling albums worldwide and I'm certain they'll bring us more albums just as great as Holy Ghost in the future" - Emily Clark

Hit The Lights – Just To Get Through To You

Hit The Lights' latest EP 'Just To Get Through To You' was released on the 6th of May 2016. I had never heard of this band before they released this acoustic EP, which is definitely worth a listen if you're a fan of the Pop-Punk vibe.

Andy Black – The Shadow Side

The release is a very open and honest lyrical affair, full of love songs and really gives an insight into the world of Andy Biersack. While this is different to his day job, there is no denying that it will attract the legion of BVB fans and will transfer easily into mainstream.

CAIRO SON – STORM CLOUDS

Cairo Son’s latest album Storm Clouds was released back in March. Not being aware of this band myself and being particularly interested when I saw their sound was labeled as “stoner”, I decided to take a listen. I first listened to Devils Tongue, which begins with a “one, two, one two three four” beat (it’ll […]

Coast to Coast – Dwell

Taking inspiration from bands such as You Me at Six, combining heartfelt lyrics with soaring vocals and raging guitars in the background providing a contrast which works beautifully, Dwell is the new EP from Coast to Coast.
