Confessions of a Traitor – Illuminate

Overall this is a great record! The tracks are all individually brilliant and it is hard to find a weakness in this EP (well maybe the fact that it’s too short! But hey, it would be an album if it was any longer – hint hint guys!) I have a feeling this will transfer over really well live!

You might be thinking ‘what the hell is all that about at the top?’ and I wouldn’t blame you. The answer, for those interested, is the lines are the titles of the tracks on this EP. During our interview with Confessions of a Traitor (which you can read here), we were informed that the titles of each track form a short poem when put together. After reading the poem from the London based metallic hardcore quintet, we thought it was a pretty good inspirational quote and so it’s the first thing you now see!

Opening track In Darkness Ignite the Spark has good guitar work and great, tight screams. There is also a prominent drum beat which matches the intensity of the vocals. The Fires We Burn Are Boundless is just over 3 minutes of pure pit inducing fury. The latest release from the record comes in the form of Through Struggle, Hope Will Anchor Our Souls which features the awesome JT Cavey of ERRA. This is my favourite track on the record with its intermittent drums, tight screams and great riffs.
