Ever wondered what your favourite artists think is the best song they’ve written? How about the meaning behind it? Well don’t fret because we at AltCorner have got you covered! Here Royal Mob take us behind the scenes on their favourite song!

What is your favourite song that you have written?

Gustav: “On our debut album, Cinematic, I have two favorite songs: Become and Wanna Lie With You”.

Morten: “It’s hard to say exactly which one! Besides “Wanna Lie With You” I want to mention “Cinematic” as one of my favourite tracks on this album. The verse is tight and straight on, pre-chorus is strange, but in the good way, and the chorus is Catchy disco/rock as well!

Andreas: “My favourite song would be Become.

Guillaume: “My favourite song would definitely be “Fire”.

What inspired the song?

Gustav: Let’s start with Become. I have experienced a lot of death during the past few years, having both relatives and friends die way too young. Especially the loss of a close family friend who left a young daughter behind was really hard. But death and loss, no matter how horrible and sad, are a part of life. And even though it might feel like life has practically ended, in the end we pick ourselves up and continue on. And I would like to think, that even after death, a part of that person is carried with us for the rest of our lives. Especially if that person was important, like a parent, mentor or guide. And I believe that we, both consciously and unconsciously, want to live up to their expectations of us, and, partly, live by the lessons they thought us.

Wanna Lie, on the other hand, is really simple: It is about the raw, unfiltered passion of the moment. Even if it leads us to make mistakes we know we shouldn’t make, that overwriting of our filters and morals – simply letting go – has a primal power.

Morten: I think we got inspired by a mix of many things that led us to write this number at that time. And yet, I think that much of it came to us out of the blue, just by jamming around together…!

Andreas: I got inspired with rhythms of Jazz/Rap to start with, but then after jamming with the guys, we started making more staccato rhythms and the bpm got higher and higher so it would result into this. And I really dig it !

Guillaume: Right before writing this song we we’re in a phase where we got inspired by plenty of bands and genres, but especially by an Icelandic band called Agent Fresco that combines pop, alternative, art, metal, and math-rock. (If you listen to our music, you’ll see as well that we’re inspiring by everything that sounds good to us). On top of that, just add a couples of beers (yeah okay, quite a lot actually), and some hours of jamming together in our rehearsal room, and here came to be born “Fire”.

What is it about the track that makes it so special to you?

Gustav: Become has a lyric that is very personal. And that make it special to me ‘cause it connects with me on a deep level. Wanna Lie is just catchy as hell. It has all the things I like: A great hook, a powerful guitar-riff and a lot of falsetto. And you don’t have to hear it many times, before it gets stuck in your head.

Morten: I really love the catchy disco-ish/rock feeling there is in the chorus and I can’t explain why, but the bridge catches me, I love bridges and especially this one, which I think, is one of the best we have made until now!”.

Andreas: I think for me it’s all about the fact that we used and got inspired by so many rhythms and genres. I had been listening to a lot to rap in this period, and in the process of jamming with the guys, it just got to a higher end”.

Guillaume: The groove coming out of this song makes it special to me because I just feel like dancing and jumping all around when I listen to it. It’s definitely one of the songs I enjoy playing the most during concerts!
