Chris Messer, pop-punk band ‘Showoff’s frontman, is starting a new indie record label, Dodgeball Records, with wife Dani, and Mike Felumlee of Smoking Popes.
Born in Chicago from a passion for music, the trio aim to run the label like a family business, and to recruit bands and artists to join their team who match their love for music, and they’ve already got talent to boot. Indianapolis pop-punk group, ‘Amuse’, will be releasing an EP, ‘Life Sucks’, on August 4th, followed by a release from ‘Showoff’.
They want to nurture artists, giving them the encouragement and funding they need to grow, while giving them a home where they feel appreciated. They also aim to work on relationships with other independent artists, record stores, and labels with a similar ethos; creating a “us” culture, over a “me” culture.
Chris said, “Our goal is basically to build a brand that represents our core values: integrity, honesty, transparency (which is not very label-like if you have ever been on one- especially major labels), loyalty, treating each other like a functional family and having everything we do be a labor of love instead of it being done for the love of money.”
