Slackrr take on the A-Z challenge

Our A-Z challenge is a fun way to get to know the many bands and artists out there. Here it’s the turn of Slackrr to tell us all about themselves!

A song that made you want to make music?

There are so many to choose from it would probably be something our dads had on the radio like Smells Like Teen Spirit or something like that.

Best rider you’ve had?

We had this crazy big rider at a show in Chester earlier this year with tons of extra fruit, multiple bags of crisps, donuts, M&S flapjacks, brownie and mini Jaffa Cake bites, various fruit, teas, sweets and chocolate bars. It was kinda wild.

Craziest moment you’ve had in the band?

Walking on stage to a packed Empress Ballroom main stage at Rebellion Festival this year…That was nuts.

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

“Though the night seems long, and so dark before the dawn, keep holding on.”

Easiest song you wrote?

The Answer” off our new record kind of just wrote itself.

Favourite song in your set?

It changes a lot but we’re currently enjoying “This Time”, our latest single.

Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?

Adam Lazarra From Taking Back Sunday.

Hardest thing about being in a band?

Interviews haha! It’s actually probably the travel as it can be quite long and brutal at times…but it’s always fun and worth it.

Interesting fact about one of your members?

For the size that Joe is, he has superhuman strength.

Jokes you have in the band?

There are so many but we do move the vehicle at service stations when the driver goes to the toilet.

Key to writing a song?

We tend to think melody is everything and we’re always looking for a good, meaningful, singalong chorus.

Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?

The USA to play The Fest.

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

We’ve now played over 560+ shows at the time of this interview so we have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with so many talented bands, musicians and artists and they have all honestly inspired us in so many ways.

New band you’d recommend?

Our friends in Stay Safe.

Opening for this band would be ideal?

We’ve had this question a lot and we always say it would be ridiculous to open for the Foo Fighters purely because it would be a stadium show and to play in front of that many people would be mind blowing.

Place you’d most like to tour?

We’ve not done Japan yet so that would be kinda cool.

Quote you’d like to pass on to our readers?

“No matter what problems you have going on in your life right now, remember tomorrow is another day and there are more people who care about you than you realise so keep holding on.”

Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?

It was a celebration of a tough personal time for the band in terms of loss of loved ones so when the record was finished we just wanted to play it live and ‘Set The Night On Fire’.

See us live at?

Head to our social media pages we have regular updates of our ongoing tour and we’re sure we’ll be in a town near you very soon!

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

Nostalgia is a powerful thing that can kind of cloud your judgement and open mindedness to new music. It’s hard to compare really as times change, tastes change and as a result of that music changes but it still draws influences from the past while striving to create something new.

Unusual merchandise?

We don’t have anything that unusual but we’ve seen others have unusual stuff. I guess lighters are kinda unusual as either no one smokes or people vape?

Variations you’d like to do on any of your songs?

We’d be open to most things just to see if it works to be honest. Someone did a country style cover of one of our songs about a year ago which was awesome.

What do your fans mean to you?

Everything, without their support we wouldn’t be able to do any of this and we thank them and anyone who supports us from the bottom of our hearts.

X-rays or any treatments needed for band related injuries?

Ohhh yeahh. From suspected broken ankles to torn rotator cuffs to mild head injuries. We’ve had a few haha!

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

Usually Highways England and the non stop pop up roadworks and closures.

Zoo animal that next describes the personality of your band?

A lion… we have one on a T-Shirt.
