A song that made you want to make music?
Perhaps What’s My Age Again by blink-182! Such a timeless tune.
Best rider you’ve had?
It would have to be something in Germany, especially the home-cooked meals German promoters often offer, vegan schnitzels, great sauces, hard to pick one!
Craziest moment you’ve experienced in the band?
Perhaps getting into physical fight with a drunken guy at a show who was hitting, physically attacking and throwing up on people watching the show a number of years ago!
Deepest lyric one of your songs features?
That surely depends on everyone’s personal preference and consideration but I stick with the second verse of our recent track Precious which goes “Put on a face with a fake smile, snap my life, it is perfect. No mistakes, I’m glistening. Nothing’s real – we’re hurting”. I feel like this epidemic of unbearable pretentiousness online needs to be fought tooth and nail every chance we get.
Easiest song you wrote?
In terms of lyrics, For You // Through You. Somehow, I felt really inspired and was done in a few minutes. In terms of music, I think Setting Stone went really smoothly but I wasn’t actually even planning on showing the guys!
Favourite song in your set?
Hard to say as we haven’t had a chance to play most of the new tunes but even before covid, Ignis always went straight off!
Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?
Chino Moreno of Deftones.
Hardest thing about being in a band?
Covid-19.
Interesting fact about one of your members?
Hmmmm, Tom is straight edge, haha!
Jokes you have in the band?
You do NOT wanna know! Remember, we’re Eastern Europeans, we joke differently.
Key to writing a song?
Patience and discipline.
Longest distance you’ve traveled to play a song?
It’s either Japan or Canada, not sure! We’re talking thousands of kilometres on the plane. In terms of driving a van, probably over a thousand when we drove from Newcastle, England to Pilsen, Czech Republic in between shows.
Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?
Tom DeLonge or Peter Gabriel.
New band you’d recommend?
Sleep Token are still relatively new, especially for larger audiences. Glad for Today from the Czech Republic as well.
Opening for this band would be ideal?
Ghost Iris from Denmark. Fingers crossed, this is happening soon enough.
Place you’d most like to tour?
The US, mainly as a dream come true for our teenage selves.
Quote you’d like to pass on to our readers?
The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it.
Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?
Late Eternity is a play of words. Eternity cannot logically be early or late as it’s eternal but it’s my expression of the existential angst typical for our millennial generation: everything good seems to have happened already (late) and we’re drowning in never-ending nothingness (eternity). It’s also an allusion to the politically-critical term late capitalism, which expresses the absurdity of contemporary predatory capitalism, similar to the death agony of a dying predator.
See us live at?
God knows! We’ve got a tour booked for the new album all across Europe in November/December 2021 but let’s see how it all goes with the vaccine roll-out etc.! Check out www.skywalkerband.com for regular update.
The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?
If you agree 100%, you’d better start writing/looking for some damn good music or quit whining!
Unusual merchandise?
Coffee beans!
Variations you’d like to do on any of your songs?
Perhaps a few stripped-down versions here or there but it’s a bit cliche so either do it in a bit more remixy way or not at all.
What do your fans mean to you?
Apart from the music and us as a bunch of friends and family, those people mean the most to us. Not that we feel obliged to suck up to anyone but we simply really enjoy the moments of pure joy music brings to us and those who listen. We love being around our fans, love to be in touch. You know, they can always move onto the next band but we can’t not have them. They mean a lot.
X-rays or any treatments needed for band-related injuries?
Yeah, Tom’s had loads of trouble with his heels, he plays a lot of football and the jumping and stomping on stage doesn’t help! Same for me, I sprained by right ankle really badly last year playing basketball so let’s see how the shows go!
You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?
Everyone’s haha! Sometimes it’s Damian, our drummer and chief driver, who insists on using Apple Maps. We get it, we’re Apple geeks but boy does the Maps app suck!
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?
Do they have skunks at zoos? They’re rather solitary and stink, haha! That’s us backstage.
