Silent Rival have been making waves with their catchy music and energetic live shows! We wanted to find out more about the Los Angeles based trio so frontwoman Sara Coda complied by taking on our A-Z challenge!

A song that made you want to make music?

T. Rex “Bang a Gong

Best rider you’ve had?

I’m not really sure what Rider means in this context, but we did have this neat bus driver in the UK who would fall asleep sitting up even though he had a legit bunk.

Craziest moment you’ve experienced in the band?

This will forever be the time we played a festival in AZ and Yutaka flew off the stage before the first chorus of the whole set.

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

I don’t know if it’s the deepest but one of my favorites is “There’s more to life than happiness.” and it’s from the song Freedom.

Easiest song you wrote?

Honestly it was Die a Little. It wrote itself.

Favourite song in your set?

At the moment, Burn.

Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?

Pharrell or Jack White.

Hardest thing about being in a band?

Having your manager say “i’ll never tell you how to live your life but i’ve sent you an email. please read.” and the email says “here’s your new schedule. 9am: Wake up… etc.”

Interesting fact about one of your members?

Joz’s bedroom is PINK.

Jokes you have in the band?

Jeez so many, I don’t even know if any would make sense. We do a lot of impressions of Yutaka trying to convince Joz to keep gambling (we gamble anytime we pass through Vegas or Reno). Basically what typically happens is Joz will win a little, Yutaka will tell him it could be more, and then he proceeds to lose everything.

Key to writing a song?

If I had that, I’d be in a lot less trouble with my boys right now…

Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?

From Los Angeles to the UK, baby!

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

Pink.

New band you’d recommend?

Don Broco

Opening for this band would be ideal?

HECK YEAH! (Don Broco)

Place you’d most like to tour?

Hmmm Maybe Japan, so we can say whats up to Yutaka’s peeps.

Quote you’d like to pass on to our readers?

Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that crushed it.

Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?

Owning the strength in numbers.

See us live at?

We’ll be in the UK in October.

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

Mixed feelings.

Unusual merchandise?

NOPE. I wanted to sell these incense burners that I make out of clay and paint with nail polish but that was vetoed.

Variations you’d like to do on any of your songs?

Eh, you can’t change the past so why stress over it.

What do your fans mean to you?

They are our everything. We always say they’re our bosses. They’re the higher-ups. We work for them. They pay our bills and we are so so so lucky to be able to have connected with them.

X-rays or any treatments needed for band-related injuries?

Wow are going there? Ok. When we toured last in the UK, I ended up in the Royal Infirmary peeing blood.

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

Mine. (Sara)

Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?

We’d never be in a zoo. We’d die before you take away our freedom.
