Neverlanded take on the A-Z challenge

A song that made you want to make music?

We found it impossible to limit ourselves to one song, an album or even an individual artist. So, we’ll have to go with the albums “Without You I’m Nothing” by Placebo, “In Utero” by Nirvana, “American Idiot” by Green Day, and “To The Faithful Departed” by the Cranberries. In them, there is darkness, rage, high-octane energy and pro-peace messages. They are what inspired Neverlanded into life.

Best rider you’ve ever had?

Lisa Knight. From emotional support to painkillers, she’s dope. She keeps us safe and sound.

Craziest moment you’ve experienced in the band?

There are no crazy moments when you’re crazy enough. NHS can prove this.

Deepest lyric one of your songs features?

This depends on one’s perception and emotional state of mind. It’s impossible for us to choose only one because our lyrics are like our diary… our selves.

Easiest song you wrote?

While we write lyrics in one go, music and production of the song takes a bit longer. If you mute your ego, and listen to the song, it’s a fairly simple process.

Favourite song in your set?

Each song represents a different story, a different heart beat, and a different breath. But they all come from within. They’re all our favourites.

Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?

This is an interesting question which is impossible to answer with just one name. The band has huge admiration for living legends like PJ Harvey, Bjork, Michael Stipe of R.E.M., Alison Mosshart of the Kills, Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Shirley Manson of Garbage, Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine, Lady Gaga, Kelis, M.I.A., Eva Spence of Rolo Tomassi and Ellie Rowsell of Wolf Alice. As well as the dearly departed Dolores O’ Riordan of the Cranberries and David Bowie who we consider to be the cornerstones of our band’s existence. Love them to bits. They all inspire and influence us in a lot of ways.

Hardest thing about being in a band?

Being in a band.

Interesting fact about a member of your band?

Our drummer can learn a new song within 5 minutes, and when I say five minutes, I mean 300 seconds.

Jokes you have in the band?

We don’t have jokes. We’re very serious and we kick ass.

Key to writing a song?

Usually minor and definitely sharp.

Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?

It’s not about the distance, but means of transportation. Anywhere can be long if you’re in a confined space after someone’s had baked beans for lunch.

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Thinking about what this woman did, and when she did it, puts a lot of things into perspective.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe became popular in the 1930s and 1940s as the first great recording star of gospel music to appeal to both rhythm ‘n’ blues and rock ‘n’ roll audiences. She influenced musicians like Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and others. So, if you think about it, a black woman, in the 1930s and 1940s, influenced all the male legends that influenced rock and roll.

New band you’d recommend?

Arrows Of Love are one of our favourite bands. Catch them live and you’ll know why.

Opening for this band would be ideal?

Opening for Placebo would be great ’cause if it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t exist. Their songs are emotional earthquakes that shook us into pursuing a career in music.

Place you’d most like to tour?

As you may have noticed, we can’t make our minds up sometimes so we’ll just say earth.

Quote you’d like to pass on to your readers?

“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” Mary Teresa Bojaxhiu or, as most people know her, Mother Teresa.

Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?

On April Fools day we released our debut EP “Fluffy Unicorns United”. United we stand is our ethos in life, and in a time where politics, anti-social media and life in general try to fit us in a box and create tension between people we must remember that we are all equal and unique.

See us live at?

Check our socials for more dates.

The old days of music are better than the current, do you agree?

Be water. That’s the key.

Unusual merchandise?

We haven’t done it yet, but babygrows are on their way.

Variations you’d like to do on any of your songs?

We make at least 2-3 different versions of every song we write. The version you hear is the one we decide goes to war.

What do your fans mean to you?

Without them we’re nothing – Placebo <3

X-Rays or any treatments needed for band related injuries?

Lots of issues have occurred from heavy headbanging. We’ll only stop when we drop.

You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?

Well, time does not exist, but you don’t have time for me to explain this. So let me just say that we don’t do late.

Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?

We don’t believe in captivity. So, empty the cages or else we’ll release our Liantcorn and it will fluff things up.
