A song that made you want to make music?
Ellie: The Distillers – The Young Crazed Peeling
Lily: Grimes – Oblivion
Kristy: Martha – 1997, Passing in the Hallway
Lisha: Led Zeppelin – Moby Dick
Best rider you’ve had?
We played a cider festival in a castle and we were able to take home a 2 litre milk bottle of craft cider or apple juice each!
Craziest moment you’ve had in the band?
We got stuck in a service station in the midlands on our way to play the Leadmill in Sheffield. There was something wrong with the lights at the exit and the entire car park was at a standstill for 4 hours, no exaggeration! Every now and again we would crawl forward about 1 metre and we took it in turns to drive the van so that we could all get ready in the back. We ended up pulling up at the venue at 8:10pm for our 8pm set time, but we ran straight on stage and played and it was a great set. We still came off on time because we’re nothing if not efficient.
Deepest lyric one of your songs features?
“He’s just a dick”
“What did he actually do?”
“He’s been a dick.”
Easiest song you wrote?
Probably “Shots!” because the verses were originally adlib and then when we found bits we liked they just stuck! We still change it for every gig though depending on who we’re playing with.
Favourite song in your set?
Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?
Ellie: Joan Jett
Lily: Carly Rae Jepson
Kristy: Dolly Parton
Hardest thing about being in a band?
Working around everyone’s schedules. We’ve all got super varied schedules, we’ve got 9-5’s, night shifts, gig work, a big range! It’s hard work trying to find times that work for us all for practices and gigs.
Interesting fact about one of your members?
Lisha used to play the steel pans.
Jokes you have in the band?
“Give the drummer a mic!!”
Key to writing a song?
Have fun and don’t overthink it! Think of a simple subject to start with, and write from your own experiences.
Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?
We went to Brighton and back in one day for our first show with The Wedding Present and it was also the hottest day of the year. Lily also decided to offer to drive despite not having air con.
Just geographically from Newport, the furthest we’ve been is Lytham St Annes near Blackpool. But we didn’t go up and back in one day as that’s when we were on tour.
Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?
Ellie: Getting to watch Dashboard Confessional from side stage crying, when I played with them in my other band.
Lily: Seeing Carly Rae Jepson live was spiritual.
Kristy: When I was about 18 I went to see Lady Gaga and queued for most of the afternoon, and managed to be right in front of her when she came out and played the piano. It was insane.
Lisha: Getting to the barrier for Queens of The Stone Age in Cardiff Castle.
New band you’d recommend?
Opening for this band would be ideal?
Ellie: Shonen Knife
Lily: Carly Rae Jepson
Lisha: Witch Fever
Place you’d most like to tour?
Ellie: America in general, anywhere!
Lily: Mainland Europe
Kristy: It’s my dream to go to Nashville so any tour that includes that!
Quote you’d like to pass on to our readers?
“I’m claustrophobic Darren!” – Gemma Collins
Reason for the title of your recent/forthcoming release?
We had these songs and realised they told the perfect story of a Night Out, so it named itself.
See us live at?
02/03/24 – Firebug, Leicester Indie All Dayer
27/03/24 – Le Pub, Newport supporting Fresh and Teenage Halloween
06/04/24 – Le Pub, Newport Blossom Fest
11/05/24 – Bristol Deadpunk All Dayer (Various Venues)
The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?
No! While it may have been cheaper to be a band back then, we wouldn’t have been able to make the music we want to make. This is a really exciting time for music right now, it’s so accessible and everyone can get involved.
We’ve got Murder cups! They’re probably our most popular piece of merch.
Variations you’d like to do on any of your songs?
We’ve always said we would love to get more instruments involved, versions with horn sections or strings! A pop song has never not been improved by the addition of a trumpet.
What do your fans mean to you?
Our fans are the only reason we get to make music and carry on as a band. It’s always crazy to see people who already know the words to a song and sing along, or when someone comes up to us after a set and says they relate to something we’ve written.
X-rays or any treatments needed for band related injuries?
The worst we’ve had is a broken nail, but luckily Lisha’s mum is a nail tech so she’s always on hand for emergencies.
You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?
We all pride ourselves on being super punctual for the band (motorway service station anomalies aside), so I don’t think any of us would make us late.
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?
We’d be Capybaras cause we all love a nice relaxing bath or spa day.
