Fangs Out take on the A-Z challenge

Our A-Z challenge is a fun way to get to know the many bands and artists out there. Here it’s the turn of Fangs Out to tell us all about themselves.

A song that made you want to make music?

It’s difficult to remember but probably Blind by Korn! Obviously, it has one of the best intros ever and I remember trying to work that out on guitar when I was 13/14 and making a crappy demo of it.

Best rider you have had?

All standard stuff so far really, warm beers etc but I’m still holding out for a brandy glass filled with brown m&ms! One day…

Craziest moment in the band?

I think the craziest moment so far is being played on the radio 1 introducing rock show twice! Hearing our little bands songs on radio 1 was very special.

Deepest lyric one of your song’s features?

In our latest single ‘Doomed Anyway’ there is a line that says “There are shadows creeping on your lungs, there are goodbyes dripping off our tongues”

Which is a very personal one to me.

Easiest song you wrote?

There’s a song called ‘01922’ on our first ep ‘Curse Words’ that is basically two riffs and is one minute and nineteen seconds long. That was easy to write!

Favourite song in your set?

I personally love playing ‘Glum’ off our second ep ‘Pretty Bleak’ as it’s a rager and the end breakdown give me goosebumps every time we play it!

Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?

Keith Buckley formerly of Every Time I Die but to be fair, I wouldn’t want to sing on the song at all and let him do it all.

Hardest thing about being in a band?

I think for me it’s trying to get yourself into as many ears as possible. There are so many bands out there it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle but doing interviews for awesome people like yourselves helps!

Interesting fact about one of your members?

Ben has the mind and back of a 139-year-old.

Jokes you have in the band?

Oh there’s Loads! Mainly about a certain member when he gets steaming!

Key to writing a song?

  • Start with a sick riff and then build the instrumentation around it. Usually, a riff will lead you where the song wants to go.
  • Then hum the best Hook or Chorus you can think over the top.
  • The fit the best lyrics you can think of into what you’ve hummed.
  • Then you should end up with Bohemian Rapsody

Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?

We went down to Bridgewater a few months ago which was a bit of a jaunt from Birmingham, but it was totally worth it as we played with our mates in Raiders UK and the crowd was fucking awesome! We can’t wait to get back.

Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?

Fred Durst walking up on stage halfway through a Christina Aguilera song at the 2000 MTV VMA’s. Changed my life, go and youtube it!

New band you’d recommend?

Fangs Out! Haha no go check out our mates in Brookhorse, Johanna Rey and Creature

Opening for this band would be ideal?

Too many but let’s say Cancer Bats! Someone make it happen!

Place you’d most like to tour?

A proper tour of the uk would be excellent, we’ll aim for oversees a bit later.

Quote that you’d like to pass on to our readers?

If you’ve got this far thank you and keep going as it gets juicy below.

Reason for the title of your forthcoming release?

‘Doomed Anyway’ because we’re all going out the same way eventually so you may as well enjoy yourself whilst you can.

See us live at?

28.04.23 Primordial radios “Primordial General Mayhem” at KK’s steel mill in Wolverhampton

The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?

Nah man there’s some rad shit out there now! I think being in a band in the old days was better as there was a chance you’d actually make money!

Unusual merchandise?

Nail clippers

Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?

I’d actually love to do a mellow piano version of our song ‘Oh Well, No Loss’ because I’m super proud of the lyrics for that one and I think it would translate well. Maybe one day!

What do your fans mean to you?

Literally everything. If someone goes out of their way to listen to our music, they are a bloody legend.

X-rays or any treatments needed for band injuries?

Nothing yet and I hope it stays that way! Everyone in this band has back problems though, so watch this space.

You’re late for a show, whose fault, is it?

Not ours!! Every member of this band likes to be on time or even early. Professional motherfuckers right here!

Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?

A Koala cus it’s nice to look at but it can take your face off.
