In today’s A-Z challenge, we asked Capstan to tell us all about themselves as they release new album The Mosaic!
A song that made you want to make music?
Surfacing – Slipknot
Best rider you have had?
The European hospitality! Meats, cheeses, fruits, veggies, chips, energy drinks and a whole bunch of beer. We don’t get that in the States much.
Craziest moment in the band?
Playing a sold out House of Blues Anaheim!
Deepest lyric one of your songs features?
It’s difficult to pick or sum up so easily, but I would say the title track of our new record, The Mosaic.
Easiest song you wrote?
livebait.
Favourite song in your set?
Right now it’s Bete Noire.
Guest you’d most like to feature on your record?
Oli Sykes
Hardest thing about being in a band?
It depends on the band and their experience, but for me it’s all the other things that you need to do aside from actually making music. A lot is expected of artists these days, and it’s harder to make money.
Interesting fact about one of your members?
Boz, our beloved bassist, has never smoked a cigarette, but he’s eaten 3 of them.
Jokes you have in the band?
Too many to count, and they’re all stupid. We’re a buncha goofs.
Key to writing a song?
You have to figure it out yourself, I really don’t think it can be explained because everyone has vastly different processes. You have to find what works for you.
Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?
I think it would be Germany!
Most inspiring musician you’ve experienced?
Watching Paul Waggoner live always made me want to practice guitar more.
New band you’d recommend?
ten56.
Opening for this band would be ideal?
Bring Me The Horizon
Place you’d most like to tour?
Australia!
Quote that you’d like to pass on to our readers?
Give our new record, “The Mosaic”, a spin! Listen to it everywhere May 24th.
Reason for the title of your forthcoming release?
A mosaic is a collection of different elements that make up a cohesive whole. That really sums up an 18 track record that spans genres from song to song, going as far as deathcore, folk/bluegrass and synthy indie pop.
See us live at?
On tour this summer May-June!
The old days of music were better than the current, do you agree?
It’s hard to say I disagree, though there are certainly parts that have vastly improved today. I do not care for the shift in focus to social media that has wholly taken over the music industry.
Unusual merchandise?
We haven’t done anything really unique just yet, but we do have a few items we would like to try in the future.
Variations you’d like to do on one of your songs?
I think it would be interesting to do a more electronic reimagined version of an acoustic song.
What do your fans mean to you?
Continuing to make music as Capstan would literally be impossible without them, we owe them everything.
X-rays or any treatments needed for band injuries?
No x-rays, but we did have to take Scott to urgent care once in the early days of touring circa 2017-18. It was winter and we slept in the van most of the time, Scott got the flu so bad I think he had a 104 fever, and so we had to drop off the last show of that tour.
You’re late for a show, whose fault is it?
I-95’s fault for sure.
Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band?
Duck-billed platypus.
