HOT TAKES: Getting To Know Vanilla Sugar!

Welcome to the feature; Hot Takes! We chat to a band or artist that we have unearthed as some what of a hidden gem and allow them the chance to introduce themselves to you, the reader. This week we chat to Vanilla Sugar!

Based out of Los Angeles, California, Vanilla Sugar continuously pushes the envelope of unprecedented sound. The eclectic sound consists of Jessica Perry (JP Vanilla) on vocals, synthesizer, and guitars. Vanilla Sugar combines comprehensive alternative/electronic sample infused music with an electrifying stage performance to create an experience that is both refreshingly unexpected and addictive.

Let’s get ready with the quickfire…

Q1: Who is in your band? I am! JPVanilla.

Q2: What is your take on your own sound? It’s a blend of every type of music I love to listen to. Electronic, metal, pop…all in one.

Q3: If you someone was listening to your music for the first time, what
song would you tell them to listen to and why? I would tell them to listen to “ThisDarkPlace”. My new single! It’s a perfect representation of everything Vanilla Sugar is. Dark, melodic, creepy and catchy.

Q4: What is the plan for 2019? My debut album will be released this fall, followed by a south & west coast tour. I head to Houston, TX next month to shoot the video for the second single off of the album.

Q5: What is the one song you wish you wrote? I wish I wrote “Kill V. Maim” by Grimes. I love that song!

Q6: What three bands inspired or continue to inspire you the most? I draw inspiration from a couple different artists. My heavy influence comes from growing up listening to KoRn. I also tie in my Electronic and Pop vibes influenced by Grimes & Alison Wonderland.

Q7: Where can our readers see you live or listen to your music? Please visit any of my social media pages, I’ll be posting tour dates soon! Music & music videos are available on these sites as well. I also host a Facebook/ Instagram Live AMA 8pm PST every Thursday.

Q8: If your band was an animal, what would it be and why? It would be a red panda. Seems cute and cuddly but packs a vicious bite.
