Hot Takes: Getting To Know Rockers’ The Flesh Velvet

Welcome to the feature; Hot Takes! We chat to a band or artist that we have unearthed as some what of a hidden gem and allow them the chance to introduce themselves to you, the reader.

In this edition, we have The Flesh Velvet! The three-piece released their  EP “Chemical Elephant” back in April that remains one of our favourite releases of 2018 so we decided to catch up with the band with our Hot Takes set of questions and here is our chat:

Q1: Who is in your band?

We’re The Flesh Velvet, I’m Kameron, I play guitar, Zack is the lead singer, and Nathan the drummer.

Q2: What is your take on your own sound?

We’ve heavily been influenced by late 80’s and 90’s alternative music, such as Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins and Placebo.

Q3: If you someone was listening to your music for the first time, what song would you tell them to listen to and why?

For a new listener I’d show them the song “27?” from our debut EP, I think that song captures our sound perfectly from that time frame of when we were recording and gigging earlier this year.

Q4: What is the plan for 2019?

Our plan for 2019 is to have our new EP/Single released, we’ll be in the studio this January. Also to play more shows, we’ve had an exciting run this year playing all over the UK.

Q5: What is the one song you wish you wrote?

If there was a song I wish I’d have written, it’d probably be Drain You by Nirvana, its just such a booming song, the riff, the vocals, never gets old.

Q6: What three bands inspired or continue to inspire you the most?

For me personally I took a lot of inspiration from Placebo, I love Brian Molko’s lyrics and his guitar work, very unique. Ty Segall is a good contemporary inspiration for me also, as well as Thee Oh Sees.

Q7: Where can our readers see you live or listen to your music?

You can check out our music on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, all of that. Our tour dates are posted on our Facebook and Instagram, we’ll be adding many more for the new year.

Q8: If your band was an animal, what would it be and why?

If our band was an animal it’d be a Jaguar.. you’ll find out why soon 🙂
