Calligram formed in September 2011. Ardo (drummer) was the vocalist for London hardcore band Hail of Abuse at the time. The band split but Ardo and Frisco(HOA’s drummer) decided to carry on and form a new alternative music band.
Ardo invited guitarist and long-time friend Bruno to join them and Tim did the same after replying to an ad. The two guitarists hit it off straight away and the chemistry between the four band members gave birth to several new songs. Unfortunately, Frisco eventually decided to leave the band and since Ardo had some experience as a drummer, he gave up his vocal duties and went behind the drums instead. His natural abilities for the instrument combined with his tribal groove convinced everyone and Towards The Void was born.
A few months later, after auditioning several bass players and singers, Hector (bass) and Alex (singer) joined the band in March 2013. Their personality and musicianship fit right in with the rest of the band. Towards The Void went on to record a demo and played several gigs until a severe throat infection forced Alex to leave the band. A few auditions later, Matteo was brought in and the band resumed gigging and started working towards their next recording.
The band eventually changed its name to Calligram in the summer 2014 and their new material ended up on their first EP recorded by producer Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse Studio (Wayne had been recommended to the band following his work with bands like Howls, Yards, Death Pedals and USA Nails). The EP was then mastered by Alan Douches (Dillinger Escape Plan, Deicide, Sepultura) and released on Spotify, Bandcamp, itunes and several other online platforms in December 2014.
The band is currently promoting their debut EP and is also planning a European tour whilst already working on some new material for their next recording. Calligram will likely enter the studio again in the summer 2015.
