Australian quintet, Thornhill, have released their second EP on well-known Australian label UNFD. The EP sees the band build on the two singles they released in 2017. Carrying the more melodic aspect of their sound forward, Thornhill achieve an alternative metalcore sound, and for fans of this genre Thornhill will surely be worth keeping an eye on.

The quintet are quite vocal about the influence of bands, such as Architects and Northlane.  It came as no surprise then that the sound of this EP is most comparable to these two bands. Think an Architects style guitar tone with Northlane style vocals. The EP intertwines more melodic vocals with heavier vocals. A song such as Parasite has an almost post metal melodic vocal layered with a hardcore vocal style.

While the band do at times fall into the trap of sounding somewhat generic. It is however early on in their career, and if they build on the alternative metalcore sound of this EP they can certainly achieve great things. If you are a fan of bands like Architects and Northlane then Butterfly is definitely worth a listen. And Thornhill themselves are worth keeping an eye on for what is to come in the future
