Canadian alt-rockers Selfish Things are set to release debut EP Vertical Love on March 16th.
Rust Cohle Never Sleeps has a great melody throughout and opener 8147 Mullholland Terrace is catchy. A lot of alt-rock is pretty repetitive but Selfish Things manage to bring variety to their short EP, with the haunting acoustic ballad of Without You being accompanied by gritty vocals, adding another layer of emotion which is echoed in the almost identically mellow Five Years. Hangman is an arena-ready banger with the potential for a huge singalong with the chorus. Piano led 1435 closes the EP off in an emotional way.
If you can imagine John Mayer-esque lyrics with Niall Horan-esque vocals but with a bit heavier instrumentation, then you have Selfish Things’ pretty fantastic effort!
