Papa Roach – Crooked Teeth

At 10 tracks long Papa Roach have kept it, fairly, short and sweet. It’s safe to say that sometimes the best things come in small packages. Papa Roach. They’re the American rockers that have been around forever. It’s 17 years since the release of their triple platinum album, Infest, and the band are back with their eighth album, and first in 2 years, Crooked Teeth. It’s loud, anthemic and everything fans of the band could wish for.

From the get go there is no holding back and the bands no frills heavy rock sound is ever present. Break The Fall has a short build but soon that punchy guitar rhythm kicks in and it is pretty clear that this album is going to sound big. A solid choice for an opening track.

Once it’s started, that loud sound doesn’t take a minute to rest. The albums title track, and one of the stand outs on the album Crooked Teeth is the band back at their roots. It has every element you want from a good rock song in the most simplistic way; there’s lyrics to shout at the top of your voice, a steady guitar and drum rhythm throughout, moments of instrumental music and a good old strong finish.

At 10 tracks long Papa Roach have kept it, fairly, short and sweet. It’s safe to say that sometimes the best things come in small packages. Throughout it’s 10 tracks the album manages to maintain momentum and doesn’t lose your attention at all; it certainly isn’t just background music. It has such a big sound to it that unlike some rock albums it completely draws you in and makes you want to take a moment to really listen to each lyric and take in that sound. Traumatic and American Dream are prime examples of this.

Concluding with None Of The Above, a track that lulls you with it’s softer beginning, the album is drawn to a perfect conclusion. There is certainly no leaving quietly whatsoever. The loud anthemic sound is there until the very end.

The album as a whole has a such an arena sound to it than the live shows and festival slots are sure to be absolutely massive. Fans of Papa Roach won’t be disappointed at all. The band are back with that sound we all know and love and it couldn’t be more exciting.
