Irish punks, Otherkin, took to London’s Camden Assembly on October 26th for a night of mosh pits after mosh pit, and a whole lot of fun.

If you’ve heard of Otherkin at all, you’ve probably heard people rave about their live shows. Frontman Luke Reilly especially does a great job getting the crowd excited, and hyping them and the band up. From jumping into the crowd a few times and encouraging the room to mosh, he got everyone moving.

Coming on to the punchy ‘Bad Advice‘ the crowd were immediately into it. That’s one of the advantages of a band like Otherkin playing a small venue like Camden Assembly. You’re pretty much guaranteed that everyone there is a fan, and that small room becomes filled with energy as everyone moshes and sings along to every word (despite their album, ‘OK‘ only being out for a month).

Their debut album ‘OK‘ gave their setlist a little refresh, and it went down wonderfully. With a longer set than the support slots and festival shows they’ve been playing before the tour gave them, they had space for album tracks such as ”89‘, and ‘Razorhead‘ – the former being one the band were extremely excited to start playing live. Their songs generally sound like they were written for live audiences, with call-and-response style vocals and usually lyrically simplistic choruses (in no way a bad thing), it’s virtually impossible to not get involved and scream along.

One wobble in the night, which is not the bands fault at all, involved a girl in the crowd getting groped by a scumbag in the crowd. The band dealt with it and got rid of the shithead. Knowing that a band will try their best to make their gigs a safe space just makes you love them that much more.

The tour continues around the UK and Europe, view dates and buy tickets here.
