Korn frontman and all-round music icon Jonathan Davis has written and rewritten the rule book so many times during his two decades in music and put his talents to just about everything from Korn’s iconic sound, to lending his voice to tracks by the likes of Linkin Park and Motionless In White to creating film scores and game franchise contributions. One thing, however, has been missing from his exhaustive lists of accomplishments and that is a solo album, which has now, 11 years since the thought first formed, become a reality with Black Labyrinth.

Underneath My Skin is catchy and has that signature hoarse vocals adding another layer to the heart on sleeve lyrics. Happiness sounds like the love child of Bauhaus and The Cure that’s been brought up on Korn. We’re treated to some groove with Your God and Walk On By. Basic Needs is a six minute opus featuring percussion instrumentation from India and Japan to create an oriental vibe.

This album is wholeheartedly what you would expect from Jonathan Davis and it does not disappoint.
