Jack The Envious are a very generous lot with EP number 2 In Your Own Way being released on July 14 as a free download! Now you don’t get much for free if it’s good quality these days… We’ve been a fan of the post-hardcore crew for quite a while here at AltCorner so let’s have a listen.
Opening track Shut Me Off has an increasing intensity build-up before some eerie vocals. It’s catchy and will get you moving. At parts, the screams could be a bit tighter. Begging For More sounds quite like an old-school pop-rock track with a bit of a post-hardcore tinge, the screams are tighter on here and there is some good instrumentation.
Guilty is a track that is pretty relevant to multiple things going on in the world right now with lyrics including “everybody’s guilty when nobody takes the blame”. The screams in this track are pretty insane also! Mrs Grim is the latest track to be released and has a bit of a Sleeping With Sirens vibe. It’s quite haunting at times, especially lyrically. Closer Never Look Down clocks in at just over 5 minutes long and begins with mellow guitars before kicking right off, although it mellows back out as the vocals kick in.
As I said earlier, you don’t really get good quality for free these days, however, this is the exception! This EP is full on energy, riffs, screams and some good old-fashioned pop-rock vibes thrown in for good measure!
