Hit The Lights – Just To Get Through To You

Hit The Lights’ latest EP ‘Just To Get Through To You’ was released on the 6th of May 2016. I had never heard of this band before they released this acoustic EP, which is definitely worth a listen if you’re a fan of the Pop-Punk vibe.

Hit The Lights’ latest EP ‘Just To Get Through To You’ was released on the 6th of May 2016. I had never heard of this band before they released this acoustic EP, which is definitely worth a listen if you’re a fan of the Pop-Punk vibe.

I started with the first song on the EP, which was ‘Blasphemy Myself and I’. I feel like this was a great song to open up the EP with. The lyrics were very well written as well as sung, making this my favorite song on the EP. The guitar, hand percussion and back up vocals go very well together and are rhythmic during the whole of the song, whilst keeping a very gentle vibe.

The second song I listened to was ‘Drop The Girl’. This one is definitely a mood lifter, from the melodious beat to the warm background vocals and beats which come in at the chorus, lifting the mood even higher and gleeful.

Next was ‘Fucked Up Kids’, which is a title most of us probably relate to. The lyrics are very meaningful and expressive, such as “That’s okay if we don’t belong to anyone or anything”, which can show a message towards people who don’t feel like they’re worth it to belong to anyone or anything that’s surrounding them. Overall, this song is attentive and obviously well written.

‘Save Your Breath’ is a much slower song compared to the others on the EP, even though this was a very fast paced and lively song on their 2006 album ‘This Is A Stick Up…Don’t Make It A Murder’. Hearing it in acoustic form definitely changes the whole view of the song in my opinion. They transformed the song into a very mellow version which is as just enjoyable as the original.

The next song is ‘Summer Bones’. Which is also a song they have released in the past. This song is very sweet-sounding and I feel like the lyrics are also very well written in this song. The background music is very simplistic and the vocals are very strong and meaningful, which compliments the beautiful song. This is a song which is worth listening no matter what mood you are in.

Lighthouse‘ is the last song on the EP. The music is very quiet and peaceful while the lyrics come into the song very fast and carry on swiftly throughout the whole of the song. This makes this song rather unique compared to the others on the EP, which I personally like about it.

Overall, I rate this EP an 8/10. I love the fact they used a range of old and new songs and mixed it up. This EP is worth buying and it would be an amazing set of songs to hear live one day.
