Griever – Soul Searcher

Griever are a melodic-death metal/metalcore genre-bending quintet. Their sound is reminiscent of the likes of Trivium, Gothenburg Sound, Malefice and In Flames and they perfectly fit the gap for consistent metal butchery. The band’s forthcoming release Soul Searcher aims to prove exactly why the quintet have been shit-hot on the metal scene since their formation.

Title track and opener Soul Searcher doesn’t give you any time to adjust, straight from the off it is an assault of guttoral growls, pounding drums/basslines and filthy riffs. It’s enough to start a one-person pit in your bedroom! Malevolent‘s drum centred opening instrumental provides a small restbite before more guttoral growls and facemelting guitars. There are insane guitar solos in Virulence. The haunting opening of She Is Death is a complete contrast to the rest of the record, however it’s back to the usual sound. Liberate is very catchy, with a great guitar solo. Closing track A Pure Heart has massive hooks and is the perfect choice for the lead track as it epitomises the EP.

The clean vocals throughout the EP are strong and the growls are some of the tightest to come out of a metal band! This is an EP that any metal fan would surely enjoy, every track is full of massive melodies, personal lyrics, lung crushing growls, intense riffs and pounding drums. It’s going to take a lot to top this EP, but I have every faith in Griever who are set to have a very bright future!
