Fozzy – Judas

We spin to a more dancey rock track with Burn Me Out. We head towards hip-hop too with Three Days In Jail a strange choice but it fits well, especially when combined with some metalcore style growls. Fozzy are back with their latest album Judas. The rockers have a strong fanbase yet are still underrated considering the talent that is shown in bucket loads throughout all their work.

The album kicks straight off with title track Judas, a song that has amassed over 9 million views! If you think of classic hard rock, this is what you are listening to with this song. It’s one that you will be singing along to straight away. Drinking With Jesus should be illegal as it’s just too good! The underlying riffs and vocal melodies fit together so well. Also guitarist Rich Ward’s riffs are phenomenal!

We get down to some serious topics with Painless and the fun from the opening two tracks has been replaced by some darker lyrics and a more mellow but still catchy track. If you ever wanted to know what pop hooks would be like with some whiskey soaked riffs then Weight Of My World will show you, combining poppy “woaahs” with a repetitive chorus and the aforementioned riffs to create something that wouldn’t go amiss on BBC Radio 1. Chris Jericho’s vocals shine through the more demure Wordsworth Way. While more demure, it still has a signature riff and an atmospheric feel to it, it’s definitely a track that fans will be screaming back at the band live!

We spin to a more dancey rock track with Burn Me Out. We head towards hip-hop too with Three Days In Jail a strange choice but it fits well, especially when combined with some metalcore style growls. Normal service is resumed with Elevator, the chorus is again too catchy to be legal as is Running With Bulls. Capsized is full of riffs and closing track Wolves At Bay ends the varied record with a true hard-rock track.

No matter what area Fozzy head to in this record, whether it’s a more demure ballad style, dancey rock, good old-fashioned hard rock or even hip-hop, they do it with way too much style and make it look so easy! Jericho’s vocals throughout are great and the riffs are brilliant. This is an album well deserved of the praise that is seen by fellow hard rockers Alter Bridge, except this album has a lot more variety than the aforementioned ‘cult’ hard rock band. It’s undeniable the talent that is on show in this band and Judas is certainly setting the bar high for Fozzy to follow but I have no doubt that they will be able to!
