Food Court have released their debut album, ‘Good Luck‘, an 11-track scrapbook of, as the band put it, ‘lost loves, lost sleep, mistakes, anxious minds, and a light drizzling of optimism on top’.

Lyrically, they’ve written about making the right choices in life, even after making a few wrongs – which I guess also applies to their music. From a few EPs experimenting with their sound, maybe making mistakes, they’ve definitely got this album right. They recorded the album in less than a week, and every track is a perfect take. The songs are succinct, punchy, and incredibly powerful from this melody-driven garage punk outfit. They’re the sort of songs that will make you lose yourself, and the type I could imagine would go down incredibly well live. The band’s Cristian Campano said, “we wanted to write songs that were louder, rawer, and straighter to the point than we had previously before”, which is exactly what they did.

‘Not My Way‘ and ‘Alright Alone‘ do well as opening tracks to introduce you to the sheer intensity of Food Court, as you’re thrown into an mass of fuzzy guitars and loud vocals. The band are at their most upbeat on ‘Slightest Brightest‘, and this carries on throughout the album, until ‘Wrecked‘ slows things down slightly. But, even at their less-energetic moments like ‘Left and Right‘, they’re still exciting and just as powerful as on their more high-octane tracks.
All in all, it’s a fantastic debut and little can be said to fault it.
