Death And The Penguin is a unique name originating from a book by the author Andrey Kurkov & fits well for the unique sound of the band’s recent album release of “Anomie.” Consisting of four members Tobias Smith (vocals/guitar), Andy Acred (bass/vocals/keys/electronics), Chris Olsen (guitar/vocals/keys), & Phil Gadsden (drums); the band have successfully put together 12 epic tracks full of great instrumentation & emotion for listeners to enjoy.

Beginning with a soothing voice that sings, ‘Oh never felt so sick..’ on the track titled “Hospital Song”, listeners are flooded with the sound of a slightly eerie tone alongside a calm piano. Simply easing listeners into a calm state to prepare for the sounds the band delivers. Throughout the album, various emotions are spoken of in their lyrics of life changes, love, & learning how to deal with the past within the present. Always easier said than done, but with the help of songs such as ‘Misha Lives‘, & ‘Strange Times‘ one can interpret meaning in their own way. Overall a great album from start to finish that is sure to uplift & pulls on the heartstrings for most. Highly recommend one takes a listen.
