Kent metallers Cove released their second EP A Conscious Motion last month. Coincide:Collide’s percussional opening is surely original and builds up an atmosphere before it kicks in and the vocals throughout the verses have a grungey feel, a different take on metal vocals but it works with the instrumentation. The chorus sees a more angsty sound. Solis, however, defines a metal track in 2018, with pure rage and angst from the start, conveyed over groovy riffs. A complete contrast comes with All I Believe’s melodic calm cleans mixing well with angsty screams.             Host provides a brief interlude and while it is a good minute and a half of instrumentation, it doesn’t really suit the placing on the EP and would be best suited for the mid-point of an album but closer Reflect:Resolve rounds the EP off well.

In all, this is not an EP that will jump out at you in years to come as one of the stand outs in the metal genre, however, it is a promising EP from a talented band who no doubt will improve with each and every record they produce and who are defining their own sound to not follow in the typical metal copy-cat niche.
