Bearings are a pop-punk quintet from Ottawa, Ontario. They’re set to release their newest EP titled Nothing here is permanent’ on the 8th of September 2017 via Pure Noise Records.

Petrichor opens the EP with a very upbeat consistent rhythm. From the vocals you can tell that this is pop punk song just by hearing the jumpy tone. The drum beats are very good and keeps the tune at a steady but fast pace. The chorus is very beautiful and sounds very meaningful. The sweet bass line and groovy guitar riffs along with the drums keeps the track very energetic and jumpy.

Next up is Spent, this track opens with a very melodic instrumental of both the guitar riffs and the drums. The lyrics are very catchy “I hear your voice from down the hall..” and these were definitely stuck in my mind for a while! This track has been very well written. Again the drums are very impressive throughout the track and I quite like the pace of the drum change in the verses and the chorus. Towards the end of the song the ever so catchy lyrics are repeated then fade.

The third track Letters home, opens very energetically. The drums and vocals are definitely my highlight of the song. “Things get better in time, just a memory a memory close to me”, this line is very sweet and the lyrics as a whole are so beautiful. The pace of the track makes this song very dancey and lively. The middle section hold a small instrumental which focusses on the impressive drum beats and guitar riffs. This is very good track.

North Hansen is the next track and this one seems like a track which holds a powerful meaning. With this track they bring back the pace and opens very slowly which is different from the rest. This track is where vocalist Doug opens up about his dad passing away. The message that this song tries to give is “that things do get better, you just gotta hang in there” and this is very true. Listening to this track very carefully you can hear very emotional and meaning lyrics. One part of the track is very laid back and sweet.

Last but not least is Makeshift, this track brings back the pace with a very groovy opening. I like the very pop-punky vocal tone as it keeps the energy in the song. The backing vocals add a nice touch to the track which is pleasant. This song is definitely a great way to end thee track because the opening of the EP was energetic and now the ending ends the same way. The lyrics are very light and sweet.

Overall this EP is full of impressive vocals, groovy guitar and bass riffs and very energetic drums. My favourite track has to be Letters Home because the “things gets better in time, just a memory a memory close to me” is just beautiful and it’s very well written. This EP is definitely one to give a spin as it gives you a little pick-me-up and its a pop punk EP so what’s not to love!
