Ever wondered what your favourite artists think is the best song they’ve written? How about the meaning behind it? Well don’t fret because we at AltCorner have got you covered! Here Dead By Monday take us behind the scenes on their favourite song!

What is your favourite song you’ve written?

Our favourite song we’ve written has to be the first song on our upcoming EP, Almost Punk, aptly named The First.

What inspired the song?

The First is inspired by the classic Punk Rock anthems of bands like Alexisonfire, NOFX and Rise Against. We wanted to write a song that was heavy and raw but also catchy and anthemic in equal parts. The drums were to be very experimental and we didn’t want it to sound like just another punk rock tune. In the first you can really see the mix of influences that drive Dead by Monday coming out on top.

What is it about the track that makes it so special to you?

As well as being the first song on the EP, The First was also the first song we finished writing as a band which is where the name comes from! We all love this song so much because it goes through so many different stages in the space of about 4 minutes and it’s incredibly fun to play because it is so bouncy and fast. It’s always the last song in the set and goes down a storm whenever we play it. On this song we really experimented with trying to be as heavy as possible whilst still keeping that punk rock feel and it
helped us realise that we really wanted to explore crushingly heavy elements in all of our songs from that point onwards.
