It’s time to get to know – Kirsty who reviews for Alt Corner! We set Kirsty 10 questions about their musical likes, their guilty pleasures and what music means to them.

1 – How would you describe your taste in music?

My taste in music is varied, I can go from anything from rock to pop punk to pop. Anything that pleases my ears! Of course my favourite genre is pop punk which is just a thrill, makes me extremely happy on my good and bad days.

2 – Who do you consider to be your favourite band and why?

My favourite band is 5 Seconds of Summer due to the fact I grew up with the band and supported them from the very beginning of their music career. I also have a love for Neck Deep, their music inspires me a lot, was one of the first bands that got me into pop punk and I also have a tattoo of their track “losing teeth” on my back.

3 – Who is the best live band you’ve ever seen?

It has to be Sleeping with Sirens at O2 Academy Glasgow, they pulled off an amazing show. Kellin’s vocals were insane live and actually sounds like he does recorded. The guitatist also came out into the crowd which was great interaction!

4 – What is the one song that you could listen to forever?

The one song I could listen to forever would be Earth, Wind and Fire’s “September”, such an upbeat track and always gets you in a cheerful spirit! Love it.

5 – What album, if any, was a turning point in your ‘musical life’ and why?

Neck Deep “Life’s Not Out To Get You”, the band and album that got me loving pop punk so much, I wouldn’t imagine myself not listening to a pop punk tune!

6 – In 3 words, what makes a good album or song?

A good album or song has to be raw, passionate and happy.

7 – A festival or a gig? Why?

I have actually never been to a festival in my life, my first “typed” festival of 2017 will be Slam Dunk Festival, so for now I prefer a gig due to the fact you don’t have to rush about to get to different stages and it is all in the one room.

8 – Who would be your 3 dream festival headliners?

My dream 3 festival headlines would be State Champs, Neck Deep and 5 Seconds of Summer which would ever happen but it would be amazing!

9 – Who are the best new band you’ve discovered lately that everyone should know about?

Best band I have discovered lately is a band called The Reason, I previously set up an acoustic gig in my college and invited the guys along to play, the vocals were insane! Great band.

10 – What band or artist is your secret, or not so secret, guilty pleasure?

An artist that is my guilty pleasure would be Falling in Reverse, I haven’t listened to them in a while but when I play their songs, I can’t help but sing along.

Kirsty Johnston

February 21, 2017

My name is Kirsty Johnston and I come from a Village called Bothwell. I have a such a tickle for Pop-punk and my favourite band is Neck Deep. I attend New College Lanarkshire studying music business in the hope to worm my way into the industry setting up live events. I am not afraid to spit out my honest opinion but I love everyone.
